Making the most of it with a good ole Aussie BBQ

I got this BBQ as a house warming gift, Billabong brand, bought in BKK, true Aussie style. I think they export these to Aus.

After failing at everything with those shitty small oven things here we started using the BBQ as an oven on Christmas when we roasted a turkey breast and vegies in there - worked a treat.

Have been experimenting lately and you can cook anything in the fuker. Baked vegies come out real good. The mrs. has got a good pizza dough recipe down and we whipped us this heart stopper, just sat the plate with dough and topping on top of that mesh fish cooker:

Was bloody good, done in 20 minutes, right burner on medium, middle on low. Used the mrs dough, frozen cheese from makro (surprisingly good), tinned olives, fresh mushies, onion garlic etc, and some sliced sausage, ham and pineapple. Just like the wog shops back home used to make them.

I am pretty sure the Billabong brand is imported. Hence the price. But they do have great sales at that store occasionally.

That pizza looks killer, I would just feed the pineapple to anybody who wants it.

That kind of barbecue is on my wish list. Just a few months ago that had a special for around 15,000 your got a barbecue like yours but with a griddle and bigger. But normally the prices are high if compared to back home.

The guy up in Udon is still cranking them out. But they have really gone up in price as well.

Nice looking pizza mate and there's nothing like a good old Aussie barbecue.

If I'm ever up your way I'll bring the beers.

You also have a great barbecue ^ I have had the pleasure to enjoy two at your house. But if I post a pick we are going to see Ned cooking burgers that he calls steaks. We enjoyed and used the one in our neighbors house while you helped us out in Pattaya.

I want to see a picture of the oven your wife cooks pizza's and strudel in.

    ::2 Burner Billabong:: 2 burner billabong = 16,900 Baht.
same at Barbeques Galore - Products - Billabong = AUD 199

Nearly 3 times the price in Thailand.

Sure mate I'll get the missus to write it down and post in this thread, though it was pretty much trial and error of different recipes til she got it to work OK it the BBQ / oven. It is a heavy dough but she's just got it to get those nice air bubbles in the middle and crispy on the bottom

I dunno. I was thinking about cooking like this. It's all gas flame heating your food. I'd like the exact same set-up but with a heat-bed of charcoal or stones. Reckon it would get more flavour and not munching down on LPG. Happy days anyway.

Had no idea of the price tbh. Just knew it came from Bangkok and thought they might be made here and exported. Is this a fair dinkum made is Aus. BBQ? Like I said it was a gift, from a somewhat generous friend.

That's right for proper use only - steak, onions, chops, fish etc.

This BBQ abuse wouldn't be tolerated in WA, must be an eastern states thing.

What's next 9999?.... cheesecakes, fried ice cream?

Most BBQ are pretty basic and not designed for longevity, except fpr Doc's made in udon. mostly stainless but not for convenient use.headroom under hood limited. the best I have seen is the ceramic kettle type made in China, good price and can be used as a smoker / slow cooker.
I impported one from Chine dunno whether they are sold here

in South Africa we call it a gass braai instead of a BBQ , here we tend not to use gas, rather wood of a certain kind depending on the flavor one is looking for to taste in the meat , (think of it as smoked so-sage) as the gas BBQ u dont get a woodish taste but rather a plain to chemical taste from the gas ,, i must say the pizza look jummy !
