Marmite - The real McCoy (not the dog)

At the moment, TOPS supermarket is selling 250g jars of Marmite for 199 baht, which is a massive reduction over their normal price, which makes it cheaper to hire a private jet and import it from the south of England yourself.

I love Marmite, and it's been ages since I ran out, so this is a pretty good deal, while it lasts. And no, it's not past its sell-by date.
The truth is out there, but then I'm stuck in here.

Usually a couple of years. It does go off, though very slowly. The stuff in TOPS expires in August this year, so it's probably been languishing in a basement somewhere. It's weird. Sometimes they have stuff from the UK that you can't get anywhere else, but it's always just about to expire so they flog it cheap. Last year they had a stack of Walkers crisps (the best) and they were about 25 to 30 baht, which isn't bad considering.

"3 July 2002: The Queen and Prince Philip sample the distinctive flavours of the West Midlands, with visits to a brewing museum and the Marmite factory

Anniversaries of two well known food and drink products were marked during the second day of the Jubilee visit to the West Midlands, Wednesday, 3 July 2002. The town of Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, was celebrating 1,000 years of brewing in the town, as well as 100 years of the production of Marmite, the popular yeast extract spread."

Marmite is definitely better than any imitations. Vegemite included. You need to savour that old brewers' yeast.

Only in the UK could an industrial waste product be marketed as food.......
