    Pla Too Mackerel

Pla Too is probably Thailands favourite fish, every market near the sea sells them, tonnes of them, and I only just found out that all they are is mackerel, assumed they were something exotic.

The market you can buy them raw, fried, boiled or steamed, all for around 100baht a bamboo dish full, ie 2 to 5 fish so they aren't expensive.

The mackerel family consists of around 30 different types of fish, from the tiny ones the Thais like to eat to Spanish ones that grow to over 2 meters long, now thats fishing.

Generally the Thais will eat the mackerel with fresh vegetables, boiled or otherwise and of course their favourite spicy sauces, nam phrik and Nam Prik Kapi etc, if your buying these from the market then you have a nice cheap nutritious meal which is actually good for you, well, better than KFC and Dunkin Poxy Donuts.

Fried Mackerel at the Thai food market ready to go, this bamboo dish of fish is up for sale at 100baht.

Nice couple of mackerel at my local Thai market, these are raw and very big, again 100baht for the dish and your ready to get them in the wok and cooked up with your favourite Thai vegetables.

    More Thai Recipes.
