    Taling Pling

The missus brought home a small green fruit called Taling Pling (sp?) the other day.

I have never heard of it before...

Any one know this fruit or how its eaten?

    Cheers

I did look but I found a lot of info on restaurants that share the same name and not a lot else.

Ahh - found a bit more info searching under its other name 'Bilimbi'

Known in Thai as taling pling, bilimbi is one of the rarest fruits to find in the local markets, hence not many Thais know it. It is usually grown as a backyard tree and, unlike other Thai fruit, large scale cultivation does not exist. A small tree, it has pinnate leaves and the fruit is somewhat cylindrical, four to six metres long, light green when young and yellowish green and translucent when ripe. Sour even when ripe, bilimbi fruit is used to lend acidity to some dishes but it can also be dried, candied, pickled, preserved and made into jam.

Seems the question would be, what does your wife plan on doing with it?

Yep, but only because I have eaten them all I hope she wasnt planning on using them for anything!

First time I have ever seen them. Very sour, but I also like eating limes and lemons... I've always been strange like that

^^ I agree with you Satonic, but there must be vodka or gin and some tonic involved.
