GI index...how much insulin you body produces to break down 'sugars'.or to put it correctly "The glycemic index (GI) is a numerical system of measuring how much of a rise in circulating blood sugar a carbohydrate triggers—the higher the number, the greater the blood sugar response. So a low GI food will cause a small rise, while a high GI food will trigger a dramatic spike." For me,what has worked (well a few years ago.. The calorie theory works for some people, but not all.I know quite a tubby guy that eats a reasonable diet(average calories) and runs between 5 and 15 miles a day.He trains for marathons (does two a year)and he does not drink grog either.he is one fit and ..fat cnut. I read a book 7 or 8 years ago called "Dine out and lose weight" by a french dude. The main thing behind it was that all suger and high GI food was poison (beer, starch and refined foods etc...but not wine. | |

| Elite Member | Well I am down to 92kg now from 95.5 in 16 days and now I have to keep pulling my pants up. I did blow the diet for two days while we were moving the rig as the meals were sent out to us so I just ate what was sent. Heading back home in a week so I now I have to try and give the beer miss and go back to drinking JWB and soda

Easy - our bodies has a marvellous ability to turn excess calories into fat, which is basically a very efficient way of storing excess energy. This was obviously a tremendous advantage when living is tough, and food is scarce. Today, when we can eat whenever we feel like it, it is no longer such a good thing. One calorie equals about 0.14 grams fat. Eat 7000 calores more than your body requires, and you put on a kg of fat. In terms of weight (of fat, that is), it doesn't really matter where the calories come from. Weight gain or loss (fat in kg) = (Calories consumed - calories burned)/7000 Although, naturally there is a lot more to a healthy diet than counting calories.

| kjoule is not the rule of the game when it comes to diet. Who cares about them ? they just provide energy The problem is fat, and it's easy to burn fat with Atkins. Our body is very well trained to do so, and do it very quickly and efficiently in the right mode. So why are we getting fat ? mainly because the food we provide has "too much" calorie and not enough fat. Worse, we mix a fat diet with a high energy one, driving our body crazy and forcing it to store fat when we really don't need to. Sugar will give our body all the energy we need and then will make anything with fat become unecessary and will store it instead. This is the root of all evil. Sugar is like cocaine for our body. It drives our body diet mechanism crazy. |

I have a similar book about diets which suggests that weight is less important than waist size. For instance, most texts say that I should be between 82 & 90 kgs, but I'd look like an AIDS victim if I was that light. 34" waist is the optimum, which would probably be around 93 kgs.

Yeah, and I think we should both crank up the rear suspension and maybe even beef up the subframe to cope with the loads although my loads will be from supercross style high flyin' jumps as the husky can do that sort of thing. Bring your goggles to keep my dust out of your face.
