Killing weeds on my lawn

Uk and the West all have selective weedkillers that kill the weeds but not the grass,digging them up is no longer an option

I realise that not all weeds are killed but does anyone know if there are equivalent products here that will do the job ---the Thai name would also be helpful

Any advice would be much appreciated

"digging them up" is your only viable option here as far as I know!

You need a broadleaf weed killer which won't harm the grass. One they use in the rice fields.. Just get one of the local Somchai to do it for you. Get yer missus to explain what you want and that's it. Around here Paraquat is the main one used. It fcuking kills everything including the Somchai's.

Depends one what one considers an invasive weed.

Apply glyphosate with a sponge instead of a sprayer so you can just dab the glyphosate on the weeds. You might also kill a few blades of grass but any holes will fill in with the grass spreading.

Put the sponge on the end of a stick if you need to walk around a large area of lawn doing this.

me too I'd sooner have weeds than glyphosate/roundup which i believe is restricted in some countries.

Indeed.
Yet, many aren't enlightened nor ever will be.

If you dig them up they just grow again. How I did mine was/is to put yer lawn mower on its shortest cut and keep mowing. Eventually the broad leaf weeds dieback and the grasses takes over. I only spray where I can't get close enough to the wall to mow.

If there was a "safe" chemical I would be using it, until then will keep digging them out. New to this gardening lark, doubtless have a lot to learn. Just when you think you have got on top of the weeds more arrive! I try not to cut grass too short to stop the earth baking in the sun. The grass only seems to grow for half the year so grass doesn't fill in most of the time, then when the rains come (now!) it goes crazy growing, along with more weeds! Once the rains have really set in it seems to stop growing as I think the roots get starved of oxygen as drainage in the Isaan soil we have is not great.

Good luck with the grass seed, I tried growing seed from the UK, it had no interest in growing!

Yes there is. First you have to overlay your garden with top soil from the rice fields. The volcanic ash kinda soil won't support grass whereas the rice field soil will. After overlaying you just wait a year to see what comes up. During that time you can manually remove some broad leafed weeds. Then, let's say about once a week you run a lawnmower over the garden. After a period of time the broadleaf weeds will die back and the grasses will take over. Perseverance and a little elbow grease and you'll get your result. That's how I did it.
I never water my lawn during the dry season. I just let it all die back. Then when the first rains come in April the grass will return. When cutting my grass I never collect the cuttings. I allow them to be absorbed, if that's the right word, back into the soil as a fertiliser. Works for me and it should work for you. Good luck.

Thanks Pragmatic sounds excellent --i think I am too far away for rice fields and the grass area too big

In general it seems sometime no answer to a problem is a positive as there seems no easy way ,I will just have to muddle along as best I can
