    Roundup -real or fake?

Last year the price of Roundup went through the roof here and hit 1200 Baht for the 4 litre bottles.
(I believe due to Monsantos commitment to existing customers and a world shortage in one of the chemicals they use, due to excessive use by the Chinese.

The price has dropped dramatically here, it is even cheaper than it was 4 years ago, a 4 litre bottle is now going for 590 Baht.

The question is, does anyone know if there is some fake shit going around?

normally, roundup tends to kill everything if mixed at about 150-180ML/per litre.

I am finding i am having to do at least a couple of resprays on some of the grass and creeper vines here.

This I thought could be due to a couple of things, one, the Roundup is a fake, however it smells and looks fine, or secondly, the weeds here are building a bit of a tolerance.

I checked the last three bottles I bought, and they have changed the mixing instructions from last year, now they have a bit of Thai on the back that looks like a misprint...it reads something blah blah blah...87.5ml - 125ml ratio to 15-2L.

It I presume should read 15-20L, but they have missed the "0" on the 20.

Now I have been buying this over a three month period, and have seen at least a three month date code span on the production dates by Monsanto, yet it has never been corrected, anyone bought any recently?

take a look up in the top left corner on the back of the bottle and see if you have the same mistakes?

it seems a bit weird that a company like Monsanto would allow a mistake like that to be passed off repeatedly for over three months, or, could this be some fake Chines/Thai shit?

I tried round up a few years ago and it was a waste of money, I also question if it was fake. Went back to the stuff Thais use, at least that works.

The problem I find with the Thai weedkiller is it kills everything in about 5 minutes, but only kills what is above the surface, then, in a week you have everything from below the surface, growing anew. It cannot kill to the root like Roundup can.

If Roundup or the local Glyphosate 48 version don't work, there's more nasty stuff out there.... Paraquat. It does the job, but make sure you first read everything you can find about it before deciding whether to buy/use, or not.... This is a really dangerous herbicide and yes, sold and used widely in Thailand.

I have a small bottle, but only use it sparingly when handpicking weeds is not possible in combination with constant rain. Good protective mask and clothes are used and I do silly things like 'waiting for windless days' and walking backwards while spraying' but always very glad when I'm finished and take a shower to get rid of any residue.

Paraquat is one of the most widely used herbicides in the world. It has had a tarnished reputation because of its acute oral toxicity and ill-health associated with operators - particularly in the plantation sectors of many developing countries.

    What is paraquat?

Paraquat is one of the most widely used herbicides, and held the largest share of the global herbicide market until recently overtaken by glyphosate. Paraquat is sold in about 130 countries for use on large and small farms, plantations and estates and in non-agricultural weed control. It is a quick acting, non-selective herbicide, which destroys green plant tissue on contact and by translocation within the plant.
Paraquat was first synthesized in 1882. Its herbicidal properties were discovered only in 1955 in the ICI (now Zeneca) laboratories, who produced it commercially in 1961. This chemical type of herbicide - a bipyridyl - is shared with few other pesticides. One, the related diquat, is also a Zeneca product.

Paraquat is a contact weedkiller and only kills what it touches above ground and has been banned for many years now in the uk. Roundup is a trade name for glyphosate a residual herbicide used by Monsanto. When Monsanto lost the exclusivity to this product a few years ago it brought the price down considerably. Round up is taken in through the foliage and translocated down to the roots and kills the plant unless the plant has a waxy leaf, then a sticking agent needs to be added. It too has now been found to be dangerous and has been replaced.

That is bloody cheap. I was paying over a £100 quid for 5 litres of the stuff over ten years ago, mind you that was only available to those that had a spraying licence. The stuff that you can buy here now and avaiable to all is piss weak and needs about 3 or 4 applications to work and not all that successful, nor is it cheap, about £25 for 2 litres.

I bought some in a market in the Uk for £5 for a litre, last year

it worked on my terrace, slowly killing the plants

It is slow though and can only be effective if the plant is growing

if you want to kill the ground for a couple of months, then using Sodium Chlorate is a good way to go

everything dies back, then you can replant after two months and lots of rain
    I have reported your post

JESUS!!! is that the going rate for Roundup?

There are a few variants though, but normally, it's about 600 Baht for 4 litres!

There was a mjor shortage with one of the chemicals last year, monsanto were tied to their GM customers qand they came first, and we peasants took second best, but apparently this year ( as promised by Monsanto) the supply chain is back in order....CHRIST THESE FUCKING BEES, I now have a room full of them, kind of making death throes everywhere, and not a single spurt of ARS spray!!!

Jesus, I don't really want to go down that road...that's like spinebifida and mongs and shit, miscarriages and haemorraging vaginas..fuck, if these fucking bees don't decide to fuck off there is going to be some Honey haemmoraging tonight..I literally have WALL TO WALL Bees, come from where, and they do not appear happy!

Fucking hell, i think i am going to be stung to death tonight, however the new 5 baht lighter seems pretty good at burning their wings off... it seems in my quest for cleansing I have really pissed off a large nest of bees, It has its benefits though, the missis aND THE MIDGET GEM WON'T COME OUT OF THE BEDROOM!

I found concrete to be a pretty effective way to remove unwanted plants. Tadge safer to the community than wholesale weed killers!

Increased concrete leaves little room for drainage. We don't need to wall and plaster up the world......unwanted plants and weeds. Dig 'em up. Simple. Lazy fvcks.

I am very careful with any chemical sprays, and avoid wherever possible.

This morning a chem odour in the air, went to investigate and a local woman weed spraying wearing a backpack sprayer, no gloves or breathing protection of course. And a light breeze has kept the smell wafting around our place.

Went to have a look at where she had done the mixing, and it was paraquat dichloride. She's finished now and can see her having lunch with her family. Doubt there was any hand-washing after spraying complete, perhaps people can develop immunity? as if . . .
