Where is the best place to buy them?
Which variety for yield?
and what is the cost per thousand?
Thanks in advance

no clue but I was out golfing the other day and picked up some seeds from the ground. They had already been broken out of their outer hard shell and it was just the seeds outside the pod that I picked up and took home. I have some that I put in water to see if they will sprout roots and others that I will plant in pots to see if they will sprout. We shall see. Standing by to see what kind of response you get to the saplings issue.

also interested - varieties for different climate conditions. Crops locally (Sa Kaeo) rice, sugar, cassava, eucalyptus have only seen two small rubber plantations locally, one producing, the other maybe 3 years old - do they not like 'wet feet'? everything else grows like weeds . . . including the weeds
properly grafted rubber saplings are periodically provided free to farmers in isaan.
never been into rubber, so don't know too much about this, but definitely worth checking up on this instead of just buying possibly inferior saplings or trying to grow from seed.
Hi Good
First it's too late this year. Go to your local Amphor office and see your district Agroculture Officer. Take him to lunch and he will anwser your questions. Then make a deal with a local nusery to grow them for next year,
If you are not going to be resident in Thailand for most of the year to watch over things, you would be better to keep your money in the bank. Jim
Ah, hevea brasilinensis . . . this be my turf . . . how I earns me crust. (See picture threads . . . )
If you are going to buy clones, make sure you get a Malaysian clone . . . the old 600 series is a very good timber-latex clone and responds very well to stimulation such as ethylene to increase yield. Responds very well to slaughter tapping at the end of life cycle.
The 2000 series is a veritable gold mine for latex, though it does lack a bit in xylem density, which will equal weight when sold after felling.
Don't let anyone tell you that Thai clones are good . . . they are not. The Thai Rubber Association does some of its testing south of Bangkok and the staff have no clue and fudge the figures ti make their clones look good. In open field trials, however, their yield is far below those of even the GT1
I'd disagree with Jim, sorry mate, about talking yo anyone at the agri dept. Never have I seen a more uninterested bunch of people with less knowledge than cold vomit. As usual these cretins have a job for life and place fancy braids on their clothes a few times a month while trying to cash in on selling clones illegally.
Nope, not at all.Originally Posted by genghis61
Clones should be two or three years old when planting, this saves you a load of trouble with failure rate. Also, don't overdo it and stay around, best under, 200 trees per acreOriginally Posted by jamescollister
Strangely, in the last week a whole bunch of newbies have arrived in the village. Apparently, they're rubber workers from down south, Surat Thani and the like, and they're here to harvest rubber from trees in the mountains.
Hi Panama
Have to agree about Thai public servants, but thats about as good as it gets in Thailand.
Interesting what you say about the clones. Wish I had know that 7 odd years ago,but I quess it's all a leanimg experience. Jim
