How to build a Thai Scarecrow

First consume half a bottle of Hong Thong.

    Secondly, do your research.

Thirdly, forage for any old suitable bits n bobs.

    The technical stuff..

    This scarecrow affectionately named Khun Crow farang Pi was supposed to be placed in the middle of a paddy field instead the outlaws opted to place him at the entrance to the property to scare the thieving neighbours away;

Seems to have done the job so far..

Yet, the crows and ravens aren't clearly disconnected as we might be.

I think you'll find that most of the posters here will laugh at the idea of ghosts, za.

I'm a strong believer. Seeing is believing, in this case.

Sorry Chit, but farming wifey here says that Za's crow beats the hell out of your contraption. Hers has grace and would appear to be real from afar.

Nah youv'e got it wrong. The idea of having a red shirted effigy outside of ones property is to scare away the ghosts that may be looking for a boy within the family. When the ghost goes up to the effigy and asks if any boys live at the house the ghost will not get an answer so move on down the road.
I have put picture of this before. I post 'em up when I find them.

    Here ya go.

It really all depends where one lives and local superstitions. Things change all the time. A few years back it wasn't the effigy in a red top but an effigy of the father of the household. A local copper had his outside his house and he decked it out top to bottom in a spare uniform including boots and a holster with a toy gun in it.
Of late I see this surge of red shirts springing up again so I assume the ghosts have returned.

From what I've seen, Thai birds are not scared of scarecrows. They are a waste of time, apart from adding a bit of colour and interest to a field.

The red tee shirts out this way is for the widow maker, she comes to steal [kill husbands], none in my village, think it's not a Lao belief.

Few KMs away and you start to see them, with the coming of electric lights even the spirit houses are disappearing.

No electricity years ago and ghosts were thicker than fleas on a Soi dog, you knew they were about, as all the dogs would start howling.

Bee Bob is still around for new borns, but spirits and ghosts are a dying breed,

My ex father in law up in Nakhon Sawan used to beat up his scarecrow then he was pissed. Screaming abuse and throwing kicks and punches. He would then crumple into a heap beside its dismembered body and cry.......i think he had deeper issues

A bird to scare a bird, on bungee so it flaps up and down and around in the breeze.

In this one the blue bit of plastic causes a bolt to clink against the beer bottle combining noise as well as visual. Bonus is that the beer bottle must first be emptied.
