    It looks like a sunbird.

    Probably an olive-backed sunbird.

Not often birds get this close for a pose...seen on my morning walk while the cousins went insect picking for breakfast.

I think it's a marsh,swamp/water bird with those clodhoppers, probably a cousin of the NZ pukeko (swamphen). This specimen is stretched out a bit, but the chicks I've seen are the cutest balls of black fluff.

A Gulp of Little Cormorants. The sharp eyed amongst you will notice the Indian Shag interloper - identifiable by its larger, yellow beak.

    Question for the birders/ornithologists, please.
Quite often in the morning I hear a bird. Incessant, repetative calling, a sound I can only compare to a wooden cow bell, struck twice per second, but way more resonant. Very hard to pinpoint the location of the bird as the sound seems to come from everywhere. This morning I finally saw it. About the size and shape of a sparrow, which belies it's deep and loud call, with a red throat and (maybe) a red beak.
Any ideas what this bird may be?

What colour is the rest of the bird? Green? Brown?

    What shape is its beak?

A coppersmith barbet has a repetitive call struck about twice per second.

This is possibly the bird. It was sitting on a power line and I was virually underneath it so couldn't dictinguish much but the red throat, and since you've already identified one I took a pic of (post 156), I know for sure they reside in my soi.
It's the incredibly loud and rythmic call that intriged me.
It really brings to mind the "more cow bell" skit with Will Farrel.

^Snap. Cheers. So it was that since the appearance AND the sound has been confirmed.

That's it. The recordings don't give justice to the volume, resonance, and pervasiveness of it.
    Cheers.

Is that a crest on the top of its head or is it just a shadow/reflection/background?

Edit. I see that it is a crest. The first picture didn't show for me before.
