The common mottled frog or toad.

Some of you may have seen I have added a couple of puppies to my life, I also though have lots of the common mottled toads or frogs hopping around the yard.
Does anyone k ow if they are poisonous or otherwise a danger to the pups?

Many toads and some frogs are toxic to dogs. If a dog bites one, it can paralyze the respiratory system. But this is usually temporary. Dogs, being smarter than humans, rarely make the same mistake twice.

If it's the same kind I'm thinking of (can't find a pic) then no I don't think so. Couple of times I have seen dogs around the place even biting at them with no ill effects afterwards.

I'll try and find the old pics but when my dogs were puppies one of them licked one of those frogs and her whole face swelled up and it took a couple of days to go down. (Quite funny pics)

The vet said she would learn from that and not do it again. Soon after she stepped on one and her leg swelled up.

Best to keep them away from them.

Put on a pair of Poly Gloves. Grab the aforementioned toad/frog and squeeze it vigourously. If you notice so goo oozing from it's back, then it is likely poisonous. GF frequently indicates highly poisonous frogs around her Orchid collection. I usually chuck them across the road into a small wet area. Snakes hang out there and appreciate the plunder. Once we saw a snake desperately trying to eject a squacking frog in our yard. Obviously the snake had grabbed the wrong frog and was desperate to huck it up.

    This little creature, you mean?
Duttaphrynus melanostictus, prior known as Bufo melanostictus. Common names: Common Indian Toad, Asian Toad, Black-spined Toad, Black-spectacled Toad, Common Sunda Toad and Javanese Toad. Thai names: Kang-kok ban, Khi kang-kak.

These toads are 'mildly' poisonous...their poison is a white mucus-like substance called toad resin excreted from glands on its head, but all parts of the toad - skin, blood, organs and eggs - all carry poisons.

Found in markets, roadside snackbars, thai dishes and everywhere in my garden. These two were willing to pose for me...

Or, if you're not showing early signs of a serial killer, cut the bottom off a 1.5lt water bottle and scoop up the frog and chuck him in some bushes away from your garden.

My dogs mouth them but don't eat them. This causes them to froth from the mouth.

You've got to catch it early, and just get them to say "NO" to toad licking. If you don't nip it in the bud, next they'll be eating magic mushrooms and your pot plants. From there, it's a small step to tatts, shades, piercings, and hanging out on the corners in a pack engaging in public group sex while out of their minds on drugs. JUST SAY NO TO TOADS!

Please keep in mind, that anytime you have a lot of toads the snakes will follow.

    This has been my experience...

There some green tree snakes in the vine that covers my carport.
    I saw them last week.
Which is a shame because I used to like driving my car.

You'll find that felines couldn't be bothered.
Say no to having canines in residence.

There's great value in having four large guard dogs such as mine. I heard banging on the door this afternoon. Two cable guys had managed to open the compound gate, strolled through the garden and garage, and were banging on the door. Two dogs sleeping, one licking the cable guy's hand, and the fourth taking a dump. Trained killers.....

Thais on the whole seem terrified of Rotties, and if these take after their dad they will be 60kg teddie bears whose looks should be enough.

Always have to dump toads or frogs out of my golf shoes if I leave them o/s to dry. One time I found some fornicating toads copulating in my Golf shoe. I hope they appreciated the smell after I waded through the usual effluent soaked Fairways @ Nong Khai Victory GC!
