Rubber prices become stable and may rise over 70 baht this year

    August 30, 2017

Rubber prices were expected to be more stable this year after Thailand has created a fund to stabilise rubber prices a month ago.

Rubber Authority of Thailand governor Titus Suksaard said rubber prices have stabilised after the creation of the fund with five major rubber exporters.

He said the fund has an initial 1.2 billion baht capital to buy rubber in the market and in rubber futures.

The buying since July has pushed up prices of Grade 3 smoked rubber sheets from 49 baht to 58-60 baht per kilogram.

Although the prices are not high but it indicated stable price increase, he said.

For rubber latex, he said the price is at 52 baht a kilogram.

But he was certain that rubber latex will become another benchmark price of rubber in the market as the rubber authority is planning to extend over 10 billion baht credits to manufacturers to buy rubber latex directly from farmers to produce rubber beddings.

He expected that over 100,000 tons of rubber latex would be absorbed from the market, thus pushing rubber prices to rise over 70 baht per kilogram this year.
70 baht per kg is a sheet price. Liquid latex is another price. Cup, which is what we sell and the prices I regularly quote is another price.
Sheet selling at 70 baht is still a shitty price (cup would be around 35-40 baht per kg), but it's better than rock bottom a couple of years ago.

If you don't have rubber trees, or are involved in farming, why are you posting and reading on this sub forum?
Internet café? Coffee shop? Bar or restaurant?
Not a lot of businesses bring in the money close to what a medium sized well run rubber plantation can bring in, once prices have averaged out over a 9-10 month season. Even at today's shitty prices.

Nevertheless this season its just practicing with some trees (1,300). Next year really counts. Sry for my English.
Lived in Munich myself for a few years, 79-82. Nice city.
As Jim said, we never have worked on kgs per tree. More kgs per rai or per land parcel, knowing how many trees are on each land parcel. As Jim said again, some trees produce more than others. Output and more importantly DRC will be low the first couple of seasons tapping.
Around here lately, the factories have started encouraging latex sales, they supply the containers and come round to your farm, weigh, test DRC, pay and take away. Only interested in trees 14 years old and up. Somebody we know got paid out 48 baht per kg last week.

Because where I live everyone is involved in farming of some sort. Farming here dictates your way of life. I'm retired with nothing so do so I occupy my self in my surroundings ie farming. I meet farangs that try and make a go of farming here only to see them all fail. That is bar one who got so fed up with the trouble of farming that he employs a company to farm his land.
I'm sorry if you think I'm poking my nose in when it doesn't concern me but it does.

What would you do with much land in Thailand? Since setting up a car factory was too expensive we deciced to go on with farming. We don't want to reinvent the wheel. We just use the knowledge and resources of the family. It was only a matter of business understanding, planing and "thinking about tomorrow today".

I wouldn't bother. Been offered land many times over the years. Always causes problems here one way or another. Each to their own.

    # Latex @ 48 baht per kg, high DRC content.
    # Cup last time we sold @28 odd baht per kg. We still do cup, only sell at auction.
    # Yes, always 60/40 split. Only time we changed was when cup prices went below 20 TB per kg a couple of years ago. We then went to 55/45 for a short while to help the workers. Once it hit 20.25 we reverted back to the normal 60/40.
    # Very first tap of every season, the first sale is always a 50/50.

Looks like the wet season is over, 4 days and only a few light showers, about time, hopefully the good tapping days are here again.
Bad prices, but volume makes up the difference, so now until the dorment period comes, life will be good.

    Worst price since Jan 2016.

Selling today, gate price 14 Baht, bit of a worry, usually start putting money away for the dormant period this time of year.

Read Thai hua is closing down one factory, it can't produce block at a profit and 3 auction warehouses have shut up shop, government says for re furbishing, but who invests in a down market.

Will be OK as long as the tappers don't head off to other jobs, made a deal 50/50 at 15 Baht and below, they seem happy for now.

Another bad sign of things happening, went to Lao today, Chong Mek, just south of there is/was a large state of the art sheet rubbber factory, had a walk through when they opened about 2 years ago.
Big place, gas fired air drying sheds all computerised, place is shut down now.
