Sad state of affairs, in our alleged global economy, free trade, India a big tire producer, has rubber import restrictions.
RSS grade 4 is over 100 Baht a kilo there.
Anybody got any money, lets set up a tie factory. Jim

TOKYO, Aug 9 (Reuters) - Benchmark TOCOM rubber futures rose on Friday to a two-week high on a weaker yen, but further gains were limited ahead of Chinese data due out later in the day that could shed more light on the health of the world's second-largest economy

Matt, not really a tree specialist 600 are your base root stock for grafting, not even sure if 251s are any good. As said never heard of the other trees.
If you want to pay 10 baht a kilo, can get you as many seeds as you need.

Where are you getting the 3001 cuttings from and how much do they cost.

I take it you are going for the new planting method, grafting to a growing trees rather than grafting 2 cuttings together.
If I had know of that system when I planted, I would have cut 1 or 2 years of the waiting time. Jim

I have a question how much to start say a 25 rai rubber farm not including the cost of the land. just trees and up keep on a yearly basis and how long before harvesting.

AP, never rally sat down and worked it out, too many variables.
First land price, cheap land may not be good for rubber, clone types from 30 Baht to over 100 Baht.
Have a read of the first page of the thread, rubber 101, may give you and idea, but it won't be cheap to do properly. Jim

AP just typed a nice long reply, then the power went again and it was gone. Thunder storm is nearing, so will make this short, it will cost, unless you do things the Thai way. Then you have to tap your own trees, Thais live on less, but you need to pay workers You get what you put in.
Make a list of what you think you need and costs, that list will grow longer and longer.

Had a guy write one day disputing the costs of planting rubber, he had a list of costs he had made. Think he thought the locals were going to carry 50 kilo fertilizer sacks on their back 10 KM because they love the great white hope. Jim

Hope you know what you are doing Matt, all the gene stuff, I 'm in the dark about.
Do the seeds of a 251 produce the root systems of 600 etc.

You want to look at the live tree grafting system for planting, much faster growth and less tree loss. Jim

Black leaf are JVP 80 trees, faster growing and better latex output. Not sure of their wind and rain fall needs though. Jim

+1. Mate of mine stuck this in on about 25 rai a couple of years ago. He's got about another 60 rai of 600 trees. Be interesting to see the difference in growth and eventual output.

Have heard some good things about the black leaf trees, too late for me, have only about 6 rai left to plant anything. That's at the factory and will probably sell that when ASEAN gets going.
Don't think I will care much when it comes time for replanting our rubber, things will all be different then, worlds changes fast nowadays.
Think if I ever get some more land and money, will go for lumber trees. Long haul before a return, but kids are young and a good little earner for them, plus wife is a bit younger than me and it would safe guard her old age. Jim

Jim, Don't forget, when we are both dead, there will be the big pay out for our wives when they stop finally tapping, and sell the trees for furniture lumber. Plus then it's time to either start again or stick something else in on the land.

Thought that to, but did the numbers on Malaysian trees, more stuff in English there.
They grow clones for lumber production, bigger trees, our scrawny Thai trees produce way less board feet or cubic meters of lumber.
You will get money, but a lot less than you think, trees just don't have the diameter. Jim

Rubber hits 10 week high on the Tokyo futures market, bit of confidence out there, good numbers last week from the US and China released some numbers that look good on Thursday.
    Fingers crossed. Jim

Futures are fine Jim, but sent you a few links on vehicles numbers just released and the growth areas for cars have stalled. How far out are these "futures" supposed to kick in? Detroit is bankrupt mate.

The futures are for next year delivery.
The links you sent do show a stalled car industry, but ,look at the size of those potential markets. World, I hope, can't bounce along the bottom for ever, things, have to pick up one day.
Just got to live until the sun comes out. Jim
