Hindsight is great, but makes sense to save energy and dignity by going down on a down escalator and then up on the up one. Or better still avoid even that by starting on the up one.

Love that. When i worked in Nepal thay had one escalator in a small Mall in Kathmandu and you'd get families who lived in the remote hills come to visit relatives in the big smoke. I used to go to the mall to get DVDs, mainly on a saturday and sometimes hungover and it never failed so crack me up and clear my head watching them size up getting on it or put their hand on the rail without stepping on and get pulled flat on their faces and lying on it as it travelled to the top. Still brings a smile.
