Some of the action from the Champions League in midweek

The Stadium begins to fill up before kick off. Arsenal can at least take some encouragement from the fact that Pep Guardiola's side have failed to win on the road in the Champions League this season despite their free-flowing play

The visiting stars, including Daniel Alves, Gerard Pique and Xavi, perform a curious warm-up routine

Barca's sleek passing soon creates another one-on-one opportunity, this time for David Villa, and the Spaniard strokes the ball under the keeper to put the visitors 1-0 up

With 12 minutes remaining, Robin Van Persie catches everyone off-guard with a near-post strike which beats Victor Valdes

    Milan v Spurs anybody

    Great save from Gomes

    Yepes can't quite believe it

Dawson having a quiet word with Flamini after his infamous tackle

A Scot and an Italian having a disagreement about which restauarant they will be visiting after the match

'Arry steps in and decides that a BigMac sounds like a winner!

Pick on someone your own size Gattuso, bloody bully!

    The boys a nutter!

Another display of 'you want some?'

Finally in the 75th minute the ref dishes some back to the crazy man

With 10 minutes to go, Tottenham break and Aaron Lennon picks up the ball in his own half before galloping off towards the Milan goal. Just outside the area he skips over the scything legs of Mario Yepes and then slides the ball left ...

where Crouch is on his own in acres of space to sweep the ball past Marco Amelia. That's 1-0 to Tottenham

Stick that in your spaghetti, Gattuso!!

In injury time Milan think they've salvaged a draw when Ibrahimovic scores a nicely executed overhead kick. San Siro erupts, but the celebrations are brought to an abrupt halt when the goal is disallowed because the Swedish striker shoved Dawson in the back in order to give himself room to perform his acrobatic shot. Spurs fans will no doubt be thanking the eagle-eyed linesman for preserving their advantage

    The final whistle

You can't keep a good man down, Gattuso displaying that he just not a 90 minute player

The shirts off and i don't think it's a swap

This is another image from Nasa that shows the sun emitting its first X-class flare in over four years. X-class flares are the most powerful of all solar events that can trigger radio blackouts and long-lasting radiation storms.

This picture from Nasa's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) shows two solar flares seen in extreme ultraviolet light over a three day period.

This is a still taken from a Nasa video that shows the flares in extreme ultraviolet light. The coronagraph images show the faint edge of a "halo" coronal mass ejection as it raced away from the Sun and began heading towards Earth.

Here is a blowup of the flaring region taken by Nasa's Solar Dynamics Observatory in the extreme ultraviolet wavelength of 193 Angstroms. Much of the vertical line in the image is caused by the bright flash overwhelming the SDO imager.

The most recent flare is the largest since December 2006 and the biggest flare so far in Solar Cycle 24. Active Region 1158 is in the southern hemisphere, which has been lagging the north in activity but now leads in big flares.

The images of this flare were captured the Solar Dynamics Observatory, which took off from Cape Canaveral in February 2010. The satellite is designed to predict disruptive solar storms and scientists say the images provided by the satellite are already helping them learn new things.

This image shows a solar flare that erupted in September 2010. The eruption also hurled a bright coronal mass ejection into space, but was not directed toward any planets.

The Solar Dynamics Observatory's space telescope captured this image, which shows the moon passing in front of the sun. Flares and solar activity can be seen on the sun's surface.

This was one of the first images taken by the Solar Dynamics Observatory satellite and shows an eruptive prominence blasting away from the sun. The high-resolution images are ten times more detailed than those of high-definition television.

This image was taken from a video made on 12-13 April 2010. The prominence appears to stretch almost halfway across the sun: the equivalent of a distance of about 500,000 miles.

    A miniature world

Watch out the streets are paved with tiny works of art in London that you could easily crush with your foot and not even realise it. An urban artist known only as Slinkachu creates tiny worlds using miniature plastic people placed in real world locations.

Cricket World Cup - Day 1

    India v Bangladesh

Sehwag and Tendulkar walk out together, with the small matter of 674 one-day caps between them

Bit of a misunderstanding and Tendulkar is run out for 28

    Gambhir bowled for 39

Sehwag reaches his 100 of only 94 deliveries

    One of the umpires?

Sehwag reaches 175, just 13 short of equaling the world record when he drags a ball onto his stumps

Kohli then goes on to reach his 100 off only 83 balls before India's innings comes to an end at 370-4 - massive target.

India then call for the first referal in WC cricket but were denied an LBW decision when the replay indicates that the ball was missing leg stump

Chasing such a formidable target there was no point in hanging about and Kayes races to 34 off 29 balls before playing on.

    Whoops - missed

A smart stumping sends Siddique on his way for 37

Tamim bravely reaches 70 before drilling a catch to Singh and Bangladesh's task looks pretty hopeless. Final score 283-9 off their 50 overs

    1. a report of a recent event;

It's an item about wives/girlfriends and that's only one of a very few available i suspect. Maybe he's hiding her away eh! She is a bit of a looker after all

News can also mean an interesting event (from the past, or maybe even something that is likely to occur in the future). Plenty of them in the Newspapers, old photographs etc: Think journalists are still writing/printing stuff about the Kennedy and Lennon assasinations. Hardly recent news.

Oddly, all the items i am pasting are originating from recent reports by major news corporations, so i am merely being guided by their definition of what one would describe as news.

Feel free to add a few more photo's TM, gagging for some on Libya at the moment if you come across any.

Chelsea 1 Everton 1, after extra-time (Everton win 4-3 on penalties)

What a beauty? Phil Neville scores his penalty in a shoot-out to knock holders Chelsea out of the FA Cup. Baines had earlier levelled a Lampard goal, both scored in extra-time.

    Angola's challenge to eradicate polio

A young survivor of polio in Luanda, Angola. The disease has recently returned to Angola. The reappearance of polio in the country is a blow to efforts to rid Africa of the virus

Angola was polio-free for three years from 2002 until a strain of the virus prevalent in India appeared in 2005. The virus was believed to have been carried into the country by construction workers. It has since spread to Namibia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Congo-Brazzaville

In 2010, 33 people in Angola are known to have contracted the virus, which can cause paralysis and death. Outside her home in the Cacuaco municipality on the outskirts of Luanda, Luisa Zonga holds her one-year-old daughter, Georgina, who was recently diagnosed with polio

The majority of polio cases have been identified in Luanda, where many people live in unsanitary conditions with little access to safe water and sanitation. Such conditions are ideal breeding grounds for the polio virus. Since the end of Angola's 30-year civil war in 2002, there has been mass migration from rural to urban areas like Luanda, which has put a huge strain on health services

Polio is highly contagious. The polio virus, which is transmitted through faecal-oral contact, is normally carried in sewage water and passed via contaminated food and water sources. Between 5-10% of people paralysed by polio will die

Young girls wash their drinking-water buckets in a pool of stagnant, polluted water on the outskirts of Luanda

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said that Angola's inability to halt the outbreak is due to poorly run vaccination programmes. Campaigns to date have missed more than one-fifth of children in critical transmission areas such as Luanda. According to Unicef, the failure of these programmes is down to a shortage of trained staff and a lack of technical capacity and planning

In January, Anthony Lake, Unicef's executive director, visited Luanda to assess the challenges faced by Angolans. "Every child has the right to be vaccinated against this evil disease," he said. "Angola had, in effect, defeated polio five years ago and now it has broken out here in Angola and is spreading into neighbouring countries, so what is being done here in this community is very important. Every human tragedy here in Angola is a threat to the world"
