Vehicles, at left, line up in front of a gas station in Cairo, Egypt on Fruiday. An acute fuel shortage in Egypt has disrupted Cairo's already congested traffic, with long lines of vehicles snaking around gas stations, and drivers spending the night in their cars.

Petroleum Minister Abdullah Ghorab flatly dismissed talk of a shortage, saying fuel supplies exceed demand. He said the crisis stems from “mistrust between the government and the citizens,” according to the state-run MENA news agency.

Another Petroleum ministry official, Hani Dahi, was also quoted by MENA as saying that there is “a rise in the illegal use of fuel” and calling for tighter security measures to prevent black market dealers selling subsidised fuel at higher prices

    Mali: Looting after coup

Soldiers looted petrol stations and hijacked cars in Mali's capital Bamako on Friday, 48 hours after a military coup, and the African Union said it had assurances that President Amadou Toumani Toure was safe.

Young men take to a central street following Wednesday's military coup, in Bamako, Mali Thursday March 22, 2012. Drunk soldiers looted Mali's presidential palace hours after they declared a coup on Thursday, suspending the constitution and dissolving the institutions of one of the few established democracies in this troubled corner of Africa. The whereabouts of the country's 63-year-old president Amadou Toumani Toure, who was just one month away from stepping down after a decade in office, could not be confirmed.

John and Frances Canning meet Queen Elizabeth during a surprise meeting at Manchester Town Hall, in England, during their wedding day

A British couple booked Manchester Town Hall for their wedding and then discovered a royal visit was planned for the same place, an event for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

According to the Manchester Evening News, upon hearing the news of the double booking, the couple sent the Queen a lighthearted note inviting her to their nuptials.
The couple was surprised to receive a reply from the Palace, not to mention when the Queen took a detour from her schedule to wish the couple well on their big day.

Tory Peter Cruddas sold access to PM, Sunday Times alleges

Secretly filmed footage of Peter Cruddas offering access to the prime minister and chancellor. Courtesy the Sunday Times

Conservative Party co-treasurer Peter Cruddas offered access to the prime minister and chancellor for £250,000, the Sunday Times has alleged.

It has footage of him apparently making the offer to undercover reporters.

London-based Mr Cruddas was appointed Tory co-treasurer in June 2011 and is the founder of online trading company Currency Management Consultants Ltd.

The Conservative Party said it would investigate but pointed out no donation had actually been accepted.

Labour has challenged the Prime Minister to "come clean" about what he knew about the matter, and when he knew of it.

In the footage, Mr Cruddas is heard discussing what access different size donations would get.

"Two hundred grand to 250 is Premier League… what you would get is, when we talk about your donations the first thing we want to do is get you at the Cameron/Osborne dinners," he says.

"You do really pick up a lot of information and when you see the Prime Minister, you're seeing David Cameron, not the Prime Minister.

"But within that room everything is confidential - you can ask him practically any question you want.

"If you're unhappy about something, we will listen to you and put it into the policy committee at number 10 - we feed all feedback to the policy committee."

Tory Peter Cruddas resigns after allegedly selling access to PM

He said: "I deeply regret any impression of impropriety arising from my bluster in that conversation."

The Conservative Party had earlier said it would investigate but pointed out no donation had actually been accepted.

Army training to deliver petrol in case of strike action

Army drivers are being trained to deliver fuel to petrol stations around the country in anticipation of a possible strike by tanker drivers.

The Unite union is balloting on industrial action and the government is drawing up contingency plans to avoid major disruption to fuel supplies.

Unite has been balloting more than 2,000 of its members who work for seven major fuel distribution companies.

The vote closes on Monday. strike, if it is backed, could be held next month.

This means any industrial action could possibly be over the Easter weekend, which could severely disrupt deliveries to petrol forecourts across the UK.

Egypt football ban sparks deadly clashes in Port Said

A 13-year-old boy has been shot dead in unrest in Port Said after the Egyptian city's football team was suspended, state media report.

After overnight violence, new clashes erupted on Saturday between fans of the al-Masry club and security forces.

Al-Masry, one of Egypt's top teams, has been banned for two years over violence at its stadium in February in which at least 74 people died.

A criminal investigation into that incident is continuing.

The suspension of al-Masry means the team will not compete in competition until the end of 2013.

Guatemala ex-police chief Marlene Blanco arrested

    Ms Blanco denies the charges

Former Guatemalan police chief Marlene Blanco Lapola has been arrested for alleged involvement in extra-judicial killings in 2009.

Ms Blanco and several others are accused of belonging to a group that killed at least three people suspected of extorting money from businessmen.

Her arrest followed an investigation by the UN-backed International Commission Against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG).

She has denied the accusations, saying she is the victim of "persecution".

Ms Blanco was head of the police and deputy interior minister under former President Alvaro Colom, who left office at the beginning of this year.

It is alleged she and others in the interior ministry ran a campaign of "social cleansing" against criminal suspects.
