Mickelson, and some of his fans, celebrate as he holes another 25 footer for an eagle on the 7th

That's the second eagle that Clarke's had on the 7th of the tournament. He's now 2 shots ahead of Mickelson

On the 9th, Clarke has a large stroke of luck when after mishitting the ball, instead of hitting the bank and resting in the bunker, it hits a small incline and sails over the sand trap and rests on the green. The tournament leader then sinks it to par the hole to stay 2 shots ahead of Mickelson

Clarke acknowledges the applause of the crowd as he walks onto the 18th green. Barring a choke of monumental proportions, the title is his

Clarke rolls his second shot to the front lip and then taps the ball home. He's the 2011 Open Champion

Tom Lewis steps forward to get the Silver Medal as leading amateur. He was followed by Mickelson and Johnson who received their prizes for finishing joint-second

Clarke starts to get emotional in his winner's speech as he dedicates his first major title to his children and his late wife, Heather

    Carmageddon

A 10-mile stretch of LA's busiest freeway – the 405 – has been closed in both directions since Friday for the partial demolition of the Mulholland bridge. But fears of a Carmageddon did not transpire as people left their cars at home

Two prisoners escape from jail van in Manchester

Two prisoners have escaped from a jail van after it was ambushed by armed men on the outskirts of Manchester city centre.

A number of men attacked the van in Trinity Way at about 0830 BST, Greater Manchester Police said.

They fled in a Saab, which was later found abandoned in Barrow Street in the Islington area of Salford.

A security guard has been taken to hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Det Sgt Paul Copplestone urged anyone with information to contact Greater Manchester Police.

David Cameron faces questions as Met commissioner quits

Prime Minister David Cameron is facing renewed questions over the phone-hacking scandal after the head of the Metropolitan Police resigned.

Sir Paul Stephenson was criticised for hiring ex-News of the World executive Neil Wallis as an adviser.

Sir Paul said his integrity was intact, but referred to the PM's former aide Andy Coulson. The ex-NoW editor and Mr Wallis have been questioned by police.

The PM said the Met Police's inquiry must go "wherever the evidence leads".

He made the comments at a press conference in South Africa, where he is currently on a trade visit aimed at boosting dealings with emerging African economies.

The prime minister has cut the trip from five days to two amid the continuing phone-hacking scandal.

Mr Cameron thanked Sir Paul for "the great work he has done in policing over many, many years".

And, referring to the continued fall-out from the phone-hacking inquiry, he said:

"The Metropolitan Police Service inquiry must go wherever the evidence leads.

They should investigate without fear or favour.

Thai-Cambodian troops 'must leave Preah Vihear temple'

The UN's highest court has ordered Thailand and Cambodia to withdraw troops from a disputed border region near an ancient temple complex.

Cambodia had asked the International Court of Justice for a ruling after fighting broke out around the Preah Vihear temple earlier this year.

The temple belongs to Cambodia but much of the surrounding area is in Thailand.

The judgement is part of a long-running case in which the ICJ is attempting to clarify earlier border rulings.

The BBC's Rachel Harvey in Bangkok says Monday's ruling is just the first round in what promises to be a lengthy and complex judicial process.

Cambodia brought the case asking for a clarification on an ICJ decision from 1962 that awarded it the temple, but left other issues vague.

Thailand wants the case dropped, but has said it will respect the court's ruling.
The ICJ rejected Thailand's attempts to have the case thrown out.

The court's said in a statement that "both parties should immediately withdraw all their military personnel present in the demilitarised zone and refrain from any military presence in that zone".

The court said UN observers would be sent to the area to oversee the ceasefire.

Tension had been increasing between Cambodia and Thailand since Unesco awarded Preah Vihear World Heritage status in 2008.

Clashes broke out around the temple in February and 10 people were killed.

In April, another 18 people died in fighting along the border, around another set of temples to the west.

South Africa celebrates Nelson Mandela's 93rd birthday

South Africans are celebrating former President Nelson Mandela's 93rd birthday.

His foundation has urged people to do 67 minutes of voluntary work on the day - to represent the 67 years he devoted to South Africa's political struggle.

The anti-apartheid icon is expected to spend the day with family in his home village of Qunu in the Eastern Cape.

Millions of school children have simultaneously sung him a special birthday song.

It is not clear whether the target of 12.4m was reached to set a new world record.
