Have a look here: Siam Hotel - Petchburi Road
I remember sitting in a bar in the very early 80s next to an American diplomat who was extremely upset. Apparently he had somehow been in hiding in Iran after the American Embassy in Tehran had been taken over. After a harrowing escape another Embassy had arranged his departure and booked him into the Siam Intercontinental in Bangkok. It had been a difficult flight and there was no one to meet him in Bangkok. He got a dodgy taxi driver from Don Muang who decided to take him to the Siam Hotel because the drivers got a commission there. He was appalled when they arrived and could not understand how the embassy could book him in to a place like that. He reckoned the conversation went like this:
Distressed American: What is this place?
Taxi driver: Siam Hotel, you want lady?
DA: Hell no, I don't want a lady. I've been traveling for 3 days.
TD: You want boy?
DA: What kind of pervert do you think I am?
TD: You want lady boy?
DA: Jesus Christ you animal. The only person I want to see is the American Ambassador.
Confused pause
TD: No can do easy, but can do. How much you pay?
The guy was really keen to leave Thailand.
