Where do you find these interesting photos Rural ?
They are good viewing its just a shame that like other countries Thailand history has not stood still.
The haircuts look pretty modern for 1867. I guess the hair was kept short due to the heat.
You'll find that this close cropped-floppy top was the more common style amongst everyday folk as well as royalty during Mongkut's reign, well into the Chulalongkorn era- where in time, feminine nobility began to where long, long hair by the early 1890s and certainly was the more common style amongst elites. Commoner styles still remained of this odd cropped style into the first few years of the twentieth century.....where it petered out and modified into more mainstream fashion [as you might find today].
If one browses this thread you'll find examples from the 1860s to 1900....commoner styles as well as nobility.
