    RIP...............Gumby

Gumby creator Art Clokey dies at 88 in California

LOS OSOS, Calif. - Animator Art Clokey, whose bendable creation Gumby became a pop culture phenomenon through decades of toys, revivals and satires, died Friday. He was 88.

Clokey, who suffered from repeated bladder infections, died in his sleep at his home in Los Osos on California's central coast, son Joseph told the Los Angeles Times.

Gumby grew out of a student project Clokey produced at the University of Southern California in the early 1950s called "Gumbasia."
That led to his making shorts featuring Gumby and his horse friend Pokey for the "Howdy Doody Show" and several series through the years.

He said he based Gumby's swooping head on the cowlick hairdo of his father, who died in a car accident when Clokey was nine. And Clokey's wife suggested he give Gumby the body of a gingerbread man.

Jan 11, aged 71. American pornographic actress and first woman producer of porn films. Went into the business when she was 39, joining the "golden era" of X-rated pictures, and appearing in more than 70 of them. Created the on-screen persona "Aunt Peg", "exemplifying the lusty, intelligent, self-assured older woman who genuinely loves sex". Fluent in Japanese, she studied Asian art history and Japanese literature at Jochi University in Tokyo and taught conversational English in Europe. Landed first film role while working as a secretary for a producer in Miami, appearing (clothed) in a black and white sexploitation film as a police sergeant. Left the business when her video Educating Nina (1984), which she produced and directed, proved a financial disaster.

Like many American writers, Truman Capote was another, vastly over rated. Wrote one good, if rather slender book, then became a recluse. Favorite of the odd mad assassin.

But he was a writer. No need to sound like Doris Day.

    I've never read Capote.

Haig, top adviser to 3 presidents, died

BALTIMORE -- Former secretary of state and presidential adviser Alexander Haig died Saturday after he was hospitalized at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Hospital spokesman Gary Stephenson said Friday that the 85-year-old was admitted Jan. 28 . Stephenson said he could not say why Haig is hospitalized.

The four-star general served as a top adviser to three presidents and had presidential ambitions of his own. President Richard Nixon appointed him White House chief of staff in 1973. In that role, Haig helped the president prepare his impeachment defense and handled many of the day-to-day decisions normally made by the chief executive.

Haig later served as secretary of state under President Ronald Reagan.

^ His wife, if still alive, will surely miss the man. 59 years of marriage is a long time. Respect.
