    Stoner Hummingbirds.

Re the mantis - I saw one of those Pink Orchid mantises on Buddha Hill in Pattaya the first time I went there, cheers for the identification.

Re the big hole in the lake: There's one of them near me, scary looking thing. Went there with me mate and his kids a while back and we told them that if you jumped in it you'd end up coming out in Australia!

Great thread Niddhogg, really enjoying it.

Now here is a description of a glory hole I have not heard before:

Bottomless Pit - Monticello Dam Drain Hole
Glory holes are used for dam's to drain excess water during dry seasons. This is the largest one of them all in the world, it is located in Lake Berryessa. It is used very rarely, but it is quite the sight to see it being put to use.
Located in Napa County, California, USA this glory hole was constructed between 1953 and 1957. The hole diameter is 72ft (22m) wide whilst the critical drop is 280ft (86m).
Its an awesome site to see when they do it, usually when water reaches high mark. Cant get anywhere near it by the general public. Could suck a small boat in it. You can hear it. Pretty cool pic Thanks
