Many happy returns. Take care out there. Statistically 69 is not a good year.

So, a few months back we thought Mrs email account had been hacked so the first thing she did was ring our bank and stop internet banking access for this account (as historical emails may have compromised our bank account).
    No problem.
We're travelling back to NZ soon and so need internet access again so we can pay the rent etc in Thailand.
    FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Went to the bank armed with passports, old passports and sundry docs. Mrs knows the drill.

First step was to cancel our internet banking because "it had only been cancelled by phone, and no, you can't just re-instate it even though you are both here in person.
Cancel internet banking officialy, signing forms in triplicate etc.
Oh, hang on...Mr Maanaam has a different passport number to the one with which he opened this joint account.
Have to address that first and issue you with a new bank book with new passport details.
"Hang on" say I, "my passport was for photo ID when opening this joint account with my wife."
    Yes ka.
So what does it matter that I've renewed my PP?
Well, it's a different PP number on your bank book to your current PP.
    So what.
    Thems the rules.
But all we want is to get internet access again.
Yes...so we'll canel your previous internet access, cancel your bankbook, issue you a new bank book, then you can apply for internet access. It will take a week and we'll send your new password in the mail.
I get the "Jai yen yen" look from Mrs.
OK, can't fight it, just do it.

An hour and a half, a ream of papers, I signed my signature about 20 times (on photocopies of my PP, visa page etc) and finally we left with our new bank book and the promise that we'll have internet banking in a week.

As we leave the bank, Mrs says, "Don't compare it to NZ darling, Thailand is backward, a developing country."
    Bless her.

^ Similar thing happened to me when I couldn’t change the password on my online banking. Went in to find out why and ended up having to go back home to my passport for them to talk to me. Then when I bring it in, the numbers don’t match because I have a new passport. Had to go back home and scrounge around for my old passport to prove I am the same person who opened the account. This in a local bank where they know me. Didn’t matter, they had rules to follow.

    Happy birthday, Davis.

And congratulations. You've made it to 69. A lot of people don't.

I today made a $1000 bet with my wife while we were in the bank. She said she needed her passport when she opened her NZ bank account. I said yes, because it's photo ID, and that's all. It does not matter that you have renewed your PP, your account is still valid. Our bet was I said it won't matter that she had renewed her PP, she, from the Thai bank's attitude, thinks it may be important.

...ffs: HB Davis! I recall 69 as a pleasant time with a number of varied growth experiences...unless you're referring to age, then it's the doorstep to hell...

    ^ Many happy returns, Davis.
Back to the moaning my apartment is bastard freezing. The main living area is not the problem, but my bedroom, which doesn't have a heater or radiator gets like a fridge this time of year.
The landlord told me in person on Saturday that he was coming to fit one on Sunday but, suprise suprise didn't show.
Anyone know of a good voodoo doll shop?

    Happy Birthday DK....

Well the 2 months off went far too quickly and I've had to leave with far too many jobs unfinished. Let's hope I can get May off to return and get the rest done. Meantime, the wife managed to mislay my wallet and the flight tickets home. The wallet was found in her pillow case and the tickets in the baking cupboard about 1/2 an hour after we were due to leave the village. Made the airport in time though, which neither of us really wanted.

Left the car in an outside car park for 2 months and expected the worse when we got back but the weather's been kind and it started first time. That's about the only good part of the day...

Walk into the office "I WANT YOUR SHELF!" snaps my supervisor. Guess someone forgot to have breakfast this morning.
In a weird way I'm going to miss his diva moments- they certainly inject some entertainment into my days. Most of the 7 year olds I teach are better at keeping a lid on it than this dude 555

When I recently went to my Thai Bank to get a new ATM card , they wouldnt allow me to carry any transactions out using my new passport because the PP number didnt match up with the number on their records , which was my old passports number .
I had to go and get my old passport to enable them to update their records before I could carry out any transactions .
Looks like you will have to give your Mrs $1000

Looks like you'll have to read again. The bet is that her NZ bank won't give a toss that she's renewed her passport.
My stance is that when she opened her NZ bank account her PP was her photo ID only. The bank is not interested in her immgration status or passport per se, just that she is who she says she is.
Fkcuk knows why the banks here in Thailand need to update your passport number.

...let's see..because local scammers are active 24/7? Because international scammers target locals who are slow to pick up on scams? Because...bank personnel don't have updated ID techniques? Let's see..have I left anything out?...

I'm a bit late to the party. Have been busy lately & don't look in this thread often.

Because , if She uses her new Passport , it will have a different PP number to the one that She opened her account with .
