I know I have nuts, bolts, washers and many other bits and bobs rescued from defunct appliances ,car parts, plumbing, electrics ad nauseam. But do you think I can ever find ‘em. A very rare occurrence if I do find 'em that anything actually fits as to form and function.
Nah have to buy new ones.
Coming home today we were flagged down by a distraught Thai man standing in the middle of the roadway. We stopped and I rolled down the window as he approached.
Ooop's! FERANG! shock, then smile he saw the wife...bla,bla, bla...I'm lost can you tell me the directions to Chiang Kong? (I thought of Terry 57), anyway turns out he's a local tour guide and he had a caravan of tourists backed up waiting for directions.
Wife gave him the basics and we moved on. Just a few seconds onward the wife spoke to me, "Amazing! Thai man, with Chinese, Cambodian and Lao tourists and is lost!" We chuckled about that one all the way home...she added to the insight, "Whats wrong with him, no GPS?" Very funny that one...I'm still smiling.
Hope she actually knew where it was and did not do what most Thais do- if not know just make something up to save face and so you won't be disappointed.
My daily moan, too hot and I hate living in This fuking cuntry.
Serious question - why stay?Originally Posted by Dragonfly94

Fair enough.
Why not try another SEAsian country? I don't know if you still work, but Singapore and Malaysia are far more 'real' countries and if you don't mind not being in the tropics there's HK and Taiwan - still pleasant and very vibrant
Rule of law. Not one law for locals and one for foreigners for a start . . . considering that the vast majority of whines on this board concerning Thailand comes from issues related to laws . . . point one.
Point two - fairly well everyone speaks English well, though the young Malays have slacked off due to the government's swap from English to Malay when teaching science and maths in public schools
Middle class - lots of it and thriving
Official business language is English (and Malay), so all forms are in English. I just did my tax return for the last year. On-line and in English.
Infrastructure is sound
There are no killing-fields like southern Thailand
Traffic is generally good, roads are excellent
Food safety not an issue
Food variety exceptional
Police won't pull you over for linch money - I've been stopped three times for valid reasons and let off with a warning
General level of education is quite high . . . not a lot of cheap hookers or impoverished country slags with several children pretending to lub lub the white man
The list goes on.
The place is ok, not perfect by any means, but quite ok . . . and let's not even get into wildlife, tourism, beaches etc... as the land of smiles would lose out again
^
Yeah, but the place is somewhat boring...no offense meant.
^Predominantly Muslim? That's a stopper for me from the get go OkrRkr. You never know when that one's going to hit you in the ass.
