I am considering, as a hobby, the making of whiskey from corn and rice here in Thailand. I know that is probably not a kosher thing, as far as the BIB are concerned, but will only be doing it as a hobby at home. Having never made whiskey before, but have done a lot of research on the topic, I would like to talk to someone who has done it before. BG, I understand that your bro-in-law was making some at one point, but stopped due to high taxiation. What I am looking for is a recipie for the finished product, after it has been distilled.

Thanks in advance.

My wife is being driven nuts by swarms of little, brown birds which descend on the lawn and garden every afternoon. I don't know exactly what they are, but they look like starlings (I am in the southern Philippines). They eat the orchids, shit all over the place, and are generally a pain. If you go outside and scream and bang pots together or whatever, they retreat to the garden wall and, once you have been back inside for a few minutes, they return. She has tried hanging flapping strips of cloth, to no avail. Does anyone have any thoughts. I don't want to put out poison because of the dogs, and I can't put the birdshot to them because of the neighbors. Any ideas would be most welcome. Thanks!

Trying to decide if we should get a Supercharger or a Blower to help aerate fish tanks. What are the pros and cons of either machine? Saw a couple of superchargers, they seem to work well. But I also heard that blowers are very dependable and easier to hook up, and that the final cost is about the same. What has been your experience with either of these set ups.

Roundup -real or fake?

Last year the price of Roundup went through the roof here and hit 1200 Baht for the 4 litre bottles.
(I believe due to Monsantos commitment to existing customers and a world shortage in one of the chemicals they use, due to excessive use by the Chinese.

The price has dropped dramatically here, it is even cheaper than it was 4 years ago, a 4 litre bottle is now going for 590 Baht.

The question is, does anyone know if there is some fake shit going around?

normally, roundup tends to kill everything if mixed at about 150-180ML/per litre.

I am finding i am having to do at least a couple of resprays on some of the grass and creeper vines here.

This I thought could be due to a couple of things, one, the Roundup is a fake, however it smells and looks fine, or secondly, the weeds here are building a bit of a tolerance.

I checked the last three bottles I bought, and they have changed the mixing instructions from last year, now they have a bit of Thai on the back that looks like a misprint...it reads something blah blah blah...87.5ml - 125ml ratio to 15-2L.

It I presume should read 15-20L, but they have missed the "0" on the 20.

Now I have been buying this over a three month period, and have seen at least a three month date code span on the production dates by Monsanto, yet it has never been corrected, anyone bought any recently?

take a look up in the top left corner on the back of the bottle and see if you have the same mistakes?

it seems a bit weird that a company like Monsanto would allow a mistake like that to be passed off repeatedly for over three months, or, could this be some fake Chines/Thai shit?

I/the wife have 17 Rai. We grow Cassava for the sole reason that cassava was being grown on the land when we bought it and the surrounding Rai owned by various members of her family is also used for cassava.
We live in the UK with about 3 visits to Thailand a year. We rely solely on her family to farm the land for us. Its a pain in the ass not being there as you can imagine.
From what i can see they plant the seeds, watch it grow and then harvest it.
Once this is done the land just lies empty and unused until the who cycle starts again.
What do other folks do with there rai when its not being used or is this a common practise to leave it empty for periods of time
