Good News for Retirees In the Philippines

I had been holding off on getting a retiree visa here, since you had to maintain a balance of $50,000 in a Philippine Bank in order to qualify. I had been on a Balikbayan Visa, which means married to a Filipina and you have to do a visa run once a year, which really is no hassle at all. Hassle is that each time you re-enter the country, your spouse must re-enter with you in order to get the BB visa. Thus, you can't travel without the wife, which is a pain in the ass if you have to make a business trip in the region at short notice. But now they have dropped the requirement from $50,000 to $10,000 if you are over 55. Now 10,000 parked in an account is something I can handle, not $50,000. So, after my upcoming visa run to LOS in a few weeks, I apply. No requirement to ever leave, or you can leave and return weekly if you want. No BS at airport or Immigration. When you go through the Immigration line, you just hand them your passport and retiree card (looks like a driver's license). You can go through the foreigner or Filipino lines. Piece of cake. And, after five years on retiree status, you can apply for Filipino citizenship, i.e., be a dual citizen like my wife and kids. Becoming a Filipino citizen by choice sounds idiotic, but it means that I can then own land/property in my name, etc. So, for once, they appear to have passed a law which makes sense.

There is a new mini-van service to Trat, from Pattaya. 300baht.

The office is located on Pattaya Tai, north side just before Sukhumvit.

I don't have the specifics but did see a nice new van there and the times are much better than the 630am bus.

Specifics curious about if anyone knows...

-Do they pick you up at your condo?

-Any long delays on the way to Trat? (I did confirm they will take you to the Trat bus station to catch a shuttle to the border)

I see their banners are appearing around town. A good option IMHO if you like traveling overland, staying a night in Koh Kong. On that note, a second bus service to PNH is available now, 25000reil instead of the $10-15.usd.. This Phnom Penh Transport which drops you at the station near the Central Market.

Cheers and thanks in advance...yes...I know you can "fly for 4200baht on Bangkok Air return you cheap charlie Nok", I just like the Viet house in Koh Kong thanks for the advice mate...

If this is not the correct section for this, please move.

After a recent sojourn in the truck into Laos....it has wet my appetite to possibly, maybe, perhaps....plan a drive to Oz from Los next year.

So here is the planning stage thread.

If anyone has ANY at all I repeat ANY information, or has seen any relevant information anywhere on the lagistics of this, please put it here.

I have a friend who rides his motorbike from Singapore to Phuket regulalry each year. So I can get a lot of info from him, unless driving a Thai registered car from here to there is different and requires different stuff.

Also need to find out the travel means for car and people between the Indo islands to just above Oz and then i think it is Kupang to Darwin.

Also need to research the time frame for travel and what is expected to be average.

All this then also depends on several other factors if I can do it or not, one of the major ones being school for the kids. But have ideas there.

Probable dates for launch from Los would be the end of school year next year at end on june.

So here it is.....I need to get googling.
