    Exporting teak products + permits

    Hi,

I am buying Thai handicrafts and sending to Australia on behalf of a customer, up until now it has been limited to mango wood, coconut wood and palm wood products.
Everything I send has been properly fumigated with correct paperwork supplied.
Now the customer wants me to send some teak products, wine bottle holders, bowls etc. I just spoke with the shipping agent and she said you only need a permit to export teak from Thailand if you are sending large quantities, like slabs of timber, logs etc.
Anyone out there know what the deal is ? Or where I can find out what the rule is, I don't want to get on the wrong side of Oz Customs.

    Thanks, Mickmac

I once took back in hand lugage 2 slabs of hand carved Changs, about the size of Boogi boards, Timber unknown but Hard wood, Customs just asked me to clean some mud of 1 of them in there sink, no problems just inspect em for soil and insects etc,

The Oz customs have nothing to do with exporting from Thailand

they have their own set of rules about what can be imported

shouldn't be a problem but they must have a website with all rules and regs
