renewing my childrens passports - What a Pain

We called the Passport Office, what do we need to renew our childrens passports?

Old Passport, parents passports, parents in attendance, birth certificates etc.

Off we trek today to Laksi.

Children have BC's issued by the Thai Embassy in London.

So they refuse to process because they are not on any tabien baan.

We do't have one, can't have one etc.

gotta be done, they tell us we have to take the children to phuket and get them put my nephews house down there, because that is where my wife has hers. (My wife is not from phuket).

Phone phuket, they will not accept the application because we weren't married in Thailand. say we have to get married again. Fuck that we told him. Speak to someone else, turns out he just is an idiot and that is not the rule at all, but apparently we need a translation of our marriage certificate from the Ministry of foreign affairs.

So we ask, can we put them on any tabien baan in Bangkok? They go back to school on thursday and there wasn't the flights to get down there tomorrow. Oh sure they say.

Even a house they do not and never will live in? Oh sure they say.

What's the point? So we'll ask our friends and have them temporarily added to a tabien baan in Bangkok so they can get their new passports. Needs to be done else they can't leave Thailand, otherwise i'd wait and do it in London when we visit.

Jeez they have some stupid fucking rules.

So today the wife speaks to a friend who lives locally.

Of course he will put the kids on his tabien baan.

Speaks to the woman at the local Samnak Ngan.

No problem, bring them in, appointment for next wednesday, no need to worry about marriage certificates etc.

It's funny, but Phuket seems to be the biggest problem place in Thailand for dealing with beauracrats. They seem to be positively malicious in their attempts to make you do things that are not necessary.

She's going to transfer her ID back out of Phuket at the first available opportunity.
