Change lawyer, go to court take the punt on getting a suspended sentence. If you do receive a jail sentence appeal immediately, whilst out on appeal make plans to get out of Dodge.

Is bail on appeal a thing? I didn't think you could do that.
Even after a guilty plea? Im trying now to get an international bail request, based off the cancer. But like with probation... I've never heard of anyone getting it.

With the trial only 4 weeks away, part of me is tempted to go not guilty just to drag out my time left as a free man.

I appreciate all the people saying to clear things up with the ex, and yeah that might work if the case was still being investigated with the police. But the time limit is up and its already gone to the prosecutor and court dates are arranged.

she could withdraw all accusation today and I'll still go to trial. My lawyer suggests offering her 50k compensation to show I'm sorry as part of a guilty plea.

The same lawyer who advised not paying her off before it was sent to the prosecutor?

Yep. Well, she reported it. But the charges are from the state, so I cant just get her to drop them.

Unfortunately at this stage its just impossible to have the case quietly dropped, anyway. The police were willing, if I paid her compensation and gave them a little extra, but for some reason my lawyer wouldnt agree to it. So now its already with the court.
It's your life and you listened and did what a Thai lawyer told you ?
Where did you find and pick this Thai lawyer ? Have you contacted your embassy ?

Don't take this personally - any half-wit would have paid whether they are Thai or foreigner.
Contact your embassy ÑOW ! Good luck.

A free man? Clearly you've lost the plot.
Are you staying for the food and the weather?
You fucked up in Thailand. Leave what you can't carry and get the fuck out.
    The party is over.

Make sure you have the right paperwork when you get to the Cambo border.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Haha yes. I had two embassy staff visit me in jail at the police station, to "check on my welfare". They couldn't do anything, even give advice on if I would get bail.

Although they did give me 1000 from the depressingly named Prisoners Abroad charity. Apparently they give you 2000 every three months. So maybe ill end up in profit.

Mate, you ain't going to jail for 5k get a good brief to give you an opinion. Only get on your toes if a custodial sentence is likely.

The other charges are all 0-3 years or 0-4 years so yeah maybe no jail if the judge is lenient.

But theft at night is punishable with 1-5 years imprisonment. That means you get 1 year minimum. I guess with a guilty plea that remains the same.

My mate who got 40 was out in 3 so don't piss yourself.

You'll do a few months if you don't pay your way out.

And to be fair, serves you right for being a common theif.

An old employee once confessed to me that he ate at roadside stalls and did runners when he had no money and was starving.

That's fair enough, but having a good job, huge advantages in life and plenty of money and still being a tea Leaf?

You can't complain about shit my friend.

    Take it on the chin.

Well, to begin with , anything over a six month prison sentence and you get deported and unable to come back . The requirements when applying for a Thai Visa is that you havent been involved in any serious crime in Thailand, serious as being involved in anything that carrys more than a six month prison sentence .
I have had a suspended six month prison sentence , I broke someones front door and got charged with "breaking and entry , trespass , criminal damage" and a few other things .
I had the choice of either going not guilty and fighting the case from jail, or going guilty on all charges with the understanding that I wouldnt go to jail and just get a fine, which is what happened .
You cannot get cases dropped after they have been logged on their computer .
What you need to go is get your ex gf on your side .
"It was all a big misunderstanding " You asked her to lend you 500 Baht and she gave you her ATM card and you went to make the withdrawal , but you accidently pressed the 5000 Baht quick cash, instead of the 500 B option , before you could explain, she got angry and called the police , now youve given her back the money, and all is forgiven and it was all just a big misunderstanding .

Have some doubts about this tale, but if real, your bail, how much, will tell the likely sentence.
