Stat Dec required for driving license? Jatujak Licensing Centre Friend turned away the other day without a Stat Dec from the embassy confirming their residential address. (they did have bank statements etc) Friend who made a license recently, definately did not have one. Anyone know any possible the reason for the difference?

The stat dec isn't anything special, really. It's just a letter from your Embassy or Consulate that says something like "Mr X is a Martian National with passport number 123456789 and he tells us he's living at 23 Railway Cuttings".

| It might not be that special, but it is a pain in the ass to go to the UK Embassy during working hours and pay a probably outrageous fee for a poxy bit of paper. Like I said, the guy who went the other day was not asked for it at all.

I was told that the only International License legally valid in Thailand is one issued in Thailand. There is a section at Jatujak for such licenses. If you have an International License issued outside Thailand, it needs to be endorsed and have the Thai language page inserted into it to make it valid. I could have checked today, but I was busy trying to get back to the office. In an out in less than one hour, 105THB, and no Stat Dec required with a work permit.

fair enough, In hindsight, I know you are correct in what you say. The second part regarding validation and having the Thai translation added, the guy who told me still stands by it. (He slapped me viciously around the head when I told him my incorrect line)
