Air-Con recommendations?

Any recommendations on brand/price/efficiency?

Panasonic for me. It was the first unit I ever bought and I've never had a problem. I'm sure others will same the same of other brands. Each to their own.

I reckon so. Our first air con unit was LG . If you check the internet this is apparently one of the worst available but we never had a problem with it in over 4 years and it always worked and always chilled the room.

However, when we moved and after a lot of research we decided on a Daikin which is supposed to be one of the better units around, just behind Mitsubishi.

It't turned out not as good as the LG.

I have an 18LTU LG rumbling in the background; it's shite, I told the missus to go out and get any machine she wanted as long as it was a Mitsubishi or a Daikin, not an LG. Stupid moo (well, stupid me for letting her have the power to fuk up...) came back happy she'd saved money... Argggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggh.

Noisy, very noisy and not powerful at all. Don't buy an LG would be my best advice.

Daikin are the best, but very expensive. Mitsubishi are nearly as good as Daikin (you want a model with an inverter), but not so expensive. I've had Mitsubishis and they were excellent. Never spent the extra on a Daikin, but all me Thai friends that have the money buy Daikins.

Panasonic is great, as a shower unit...

I bought a 35,000 baht LG for the house and it started rattling a week after it was installed. They had to send a techie to install some after market seals that were made because of all the problems. After that it was great for a few years until the other night.....I was so frustrated with my poor True Thailand internet service that I decided to go to be early. I needed a good night's sleep after dealing with the idiots at True internet - their silliness fried my brain. I turned the air con on and got in bed. I was trying to fall asleep and not think of my True Thailand internet problems. I soon forgot my True internet headaches because the LG air con started rattling again. Thank goodness for that - I might have tossed and turned all night wondering if True would ever get their crappy internet service sorted. All that to say LG is not so bad - having problems with the air con took my mind off the lack of service I have with True internet.

I think if you service them regular they are all as good as each other, LG, Samsung, Hitachi

I have a Hitachi in my bedroom, the rest of the house feels like a sauna when goin the loo in the morning though

I like it at 17 degrees, so I can sleep under the covers, protected from the mozzies

^^ Hi Bettyboo - be positive man! I seem my crappy LG air con rumbling as a blessing. It keeps my mind off my True internet service...or should I say lack of service. Yes lack of service is all I can say to describe True internet.

My LG rattled away and they installed some plastics and tapes to sort out the problem, still rattled away loudly, but I couldn't quite find the source of the noise. One day, I try to follow the noise, out on the balcony by the bloody big noisy outside piece of industrial noise and there it was: Noise at full pelt, I was so pissed off that I just kicked the fuker, and then, you know what, the noise stopped! The housing is so badly made that it vibrates out of position and then metal vibrates against the plastic - every few weeks, I have to go out and give it a kick (or gently position it back into place).

The LG cost me 35,000 about 18 months ago, I'll be moving in about a year and I'll leave it here - I hate it!

My True connection, after the upgrade, is slower than before, but it works, so I don't wanna call them out again. That's progress for you!

We had two Mitsubishis at our old place, but when the missus did the contracts when we sold she agreed to leave the 2 aircons and 2 Panasonic showers (4.5kw) behind... They were all great, and we've had nothing but hassle with the ones in the new place...

You're quite right about some of the LG units; I've stayed at several hotels with very new units that were noisy because of the low quality the plastic case. In one, the hotel was less than a year old, I had to wedge rolled up pieces of paper into the plastic to quiet it enough to sleep.

The other thread that Dr. A mentioned also said Daikin was the best, so I am thinking about going that route. I will need three units for the upcoming house build and may just buy Daikin for the master bedroom and Mitsu for the other two.

I got four 18,000 btu Panasonic units about 6 years ago to cool a pair of 68sqm condos. They've been great, quiet and trouble free.

Saijo Denki for me. I've got an 18,000 and a 24,000. Very quiet and very cold.

The brand was recommended to me by the old guy at the radio controlled car race track. He owns a factory that (according to him) produces most of the aircon units for some of the major brands. I thought that they would be made in each company's individual factory but (according to him) they are all made in the same place.

Air-Con recommendations?
It's the same as most electricals; you get what you pay for. I have an older Mitsibushi and it's very good. I now have two more new Daikins in other rooms; they are very good too - no problems.

Any reputable comparison studys out there? It would be interesting to see a broader cross section of users to see what the numbers say about dependability, length of service and cost to maintain.

Try using a mosquito net, then you can save a fortune in electricity

I went with LG Art Cool models as I liked the look of the glass front- there are a few other companies that offer the same appearance now, but my units haven't ever missed a beat.
