Plumbing

Folks,

Do you guys know if Cotto would completely do the plumbing for a new house. I know they will design your bathrooms and make it nice and all. I wonder if they do all the pipes etc. as well.

If yes, are they any good? Experiences?

If no, do you guys know any good plumbers in the BKK area?

Cotto could recommend someone I am sure. To my knowledge there are not really any plumbers per se like in the West for residential builds. Usually, just a jack-of-all-trades builder that does the plumbing.

My advice is to look at a home that was recently built that you like and then ask who did the work.

That certainly is good advice. I found my builder by doing precisely that

If I get up tomorrow at a reasonable time I will do a thread on plumbing, in Thailand there is plumbing and there is plumbing, a Thai plumber will be doing plumbing on nice big multi story buildings using lead pipe(ok maybe galvanised), a plumber will be doing crap jobs on houses running crappy old blue pipes, my bet is your doing a house but want a plumber that does multi story buildings, there is a big price difference.

DD,

Lead pipe sounds dangerous... is that legal? Over here (Austin, TX) seems like the pipes are all PVC.

Please share anything you have on this... I look forward to your plumbing thread.

Why? Are you going to drink it or bathe in it? Proper Thai plumbers know the drops needed for waste, blue pipe plumbers may have some sort of idea of drops needed for the waste.

Oh.... I thought plumbing included both waste and clean water. I could be wrong since I'm just learning. This will be my first custom built house. So do they use lead for waster and something else for clean?

If your not drinking your tap water it really doesn't matter what the pipes are made of, but generally problems occur in waste pipes due to lack of slope.

Well,... I was planning to have a RO system or some kind of filter.... I drink filtered tap water here... but you bring up a good point... could be different there.

Ok.... that seems to be a problem. My brother had his house built not long ago.... and his toilets started to smell. How can I ensure this problem doesn't happen?

If you use his toilet in his house you will never have the problem in your house. Do you live next door to him?

A lot of times the Thai plumber connect the shower drain to the shitter tank.
You need a 2nd tank for grey water.

Are you sure it was his toilets, and not the drain in the bathroom/bog floor ??

As Ratchaburi says, often the two systems are linked together (or common) especially if there is an external sewage system. You need water traps in all of the floor drains (and keep them topped up) so that the smell doesn't come out this way.

I also suggest that you read a copy of 'How to buy land and build a house in Thailand' by Philip Bryce. (Any other recommendations - DD ??)

There's lots of good info in there, so that when you do talk to people you have an idea what you want and expect.

Why don't you just trap the shower waste problem solved
