    bamboo wall

    Hello,

I would like building a custom wall of a meter high to retain the ground of my land do you think that building a wall with big bamboo became deeply can last very long, should I sink the bamboo in concrete rather than the ground ? Is the bamboo rotten very fast with rain and inside the ground?
    Thanks you very much J

true, bamboo does not last very long when exposed to damp

if it is a retaining wall, use concrete and steel rods inside

you can make it look pretty afterwards

Why not plant bamboo? We've got a section in our garden that grows to about 1.5m. It's thick and bushy and it looks good.

    Something like this:

Outside the box - The bamboo can be split lengthwise and all the partitions can be whacked out. One can treat both inside and out with nasty stuff to slow the bugs, but they will win eventually. The bamboo tubes can stand crack to crack (For those who want to make a crack), relatively thin rebar can be vertically inserted and then wired together horizontally through the cracks. Fill with cement that has a lot of gravel. Fill slowly and bang the stuff down. It will look like bamboo for a while and rot from the bottom up or anywhere moisture stays present.

    Partial Agreement

Yeh! The mai pi will pi, but the cement won't. If it is anchord deeply, it's just a dressed up cement post. It's just a possible way to mix metaphors and maybe save a few baht. Personally, I don't like the classic Thai cement pillar, well, almost as much as my wife doesn't like bamboo; hence the blend.

Breeze blocks laid on there side is the cheapest, albeit not the strongest.

Dip the bamboo in tar ? Or any other grease ?

    Hi,

But if recover the bamboo of tar or any other grease/resina/painting before you put them in the soil, don't you think it could last longer ?

And if you spread concrete and put bamboo inside, then bamboo won't be in contact with water ?

I'm thinking that the problem is about the bamboo part which is in ground, but the bamboo part which is outside (the bamboo wall that you can see) won't rot so fast ?

    Just few ideas.

    Blocks are Good

I used the blocks laid out flat as a foot under a wall I put up. I did fill them with a hin/poon mix and then edged them with hardware cloth and a poon/si mix. The wall has rebar and a lot of wire. It’s a bit over two meters high.

Those blocks are 5 to 6 baht a piece. Poon is 100B for 50k. For overall strength the cost comparison is pretty close. I like to mix a little steel in; either with rebar, wire, hardware cloth or even nails.

A thinned mix of cement coating gravel framed in wire with a skeleton of steel is pretty strong. Of course, no depth or a weak foundation with any kind of side pressure will not last long.

PS: The water is in the air.

Build it out of bags of cement or premix laid like bricks. Gradually stagger the wall back towards the inside.

They will mold to each other, eventually harden and the paper will rot off in about 6 months. Water drains naturally through the gaps.

Wall will be approx 20-25 inches wide. I guess rebar could be hammered through but as they deform to mold together there will be lateral strength.

I think cheapo cement is about 100 baht a bag so will cost about 320,000-ish plus sombat and his friend to lay them.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

Swampland comes to mind. I have filled in a lot more than 2 rai. Concrete is about the only way to go.

Cut the edge back at 45 deg. sloping into your land. You will only lose the use of 1m .

I got bamboo in my stream to help retain the soil, I have a stream coming into the land which I'm not worried about as that brings in sediment and the ponds 4 meters or more deep, but going out of the land it was a bit of a worry about the soil eroding away, someone planted bamboo there and it seems to be retaining and building up the soil level.

    From the pond.

Leaving my land to next door.

A bit of the stream that can actually be seen, should probably do something with it to make it look nice.
