Thread: bamboo wall

Hello,


I would like building a custom wall of a meter high to retain the ground of my land do you think that building a wall with big bamboo became deeply can last very long, should I sink the bamboo in concrete rather than the ground ? Is the bamboo rotten very fast with rain and inside the ground?

will rot quick quick, will be eaten even quicker, wood worm. all in all a disaster waiting to happen.

true, bamboo does not last very long when exposed to damp

if it is a retaining wall, use concrete and steel rods inside

you can make it look pretty afterwards

thanks yes but it's very expensive my land is 2 rai...

you have to retain 2 rai of land at a meter high? yes that is going to cost you a lot of bahts,or do you mean a boundry wall? if so, use concrete posts and barbed wire

yes that's it i have to retain 2 rai of land at a meter high, i asked how much to do it and the company ask me 800.000

Why not plant bamboo? We've got a section in our garden that grows to about 1.5m. It's thick and bushy and it looks good.

Outside the box - The bamboo can be split lengthwise and all the partitions can be whacked out. One can treat both inside and out with nasty stuff to slow the bugs, but they will win eventually. The bamboo tubes can stand crack to crack (For those who want to make a crack), relatively thin rebar can be vertically inserted and then wired together horizontally through the cracks. Fill with cement that has a lot of gravel. Fill slowly and bang the stuff down. It will look like bamboo for a while and rot from the bottom up or anywhere moisture stays present.

Yeh! The mai pi will pi, but the cement won't. If it is anchord deeply, it's just a dressed up cement post. It's just a possible way to mix metaphors and maybe save a few baht. Personally, I don't like the classic Thai cement pillar, well, almost as much as my wife doesn't like bamboo; hence the blend.
