Well the project is still going ahead and .5 Rai of land has been bought for 50k baht adjacent to a main road so electric will not be a problem.

Raising of the land has been undertaken with 70 lorries of soil and then all levelled off by tractor.

Now we need to wait for the rainy season to pass to see how much settlement there has been and determine the next stage.

Because of land settlement, an additional 50 lorryloads of soil were added at the end of May.

Went up to check the land during election weekend and went to the local electric supply to get a quote on bringing power to the site.

An hour later, the guys were on site and a single concrete post on the land boundary is all that's required located 50m from the main supply. Two days later all hooked up and ready to go for 12,000 Baht.

Drilling for water is the next task.

Just returned from Loei and progress is slow but positive. The water supply was quoted at 8,500 Baht for guaranteed clean supply. Drilling went ahead in mid July, but the water was extremely red.

We decided to leave things until our recent visit and the water was still very red and even after running on a pump for 4 hours showed no sign of improvement, so the following day the drilling rig returned and a new hole was drilled in a different area. (No additional cost)

Wew now have water with just a hint of pink colour, but this was after just 2 hours of pumping, so should improve.

The building is now just gable end roof extending out 1m from the walls on all sides. Pitch has been reduced to 18 degrees and the roof will be using the commonly available trilon panels.

The builder came up with the steel spec as I couldn't find a simple online calculator. We've had 14 4x2x6m box, 35 3x1.5x6m box and 45 3x1.5x6m C sections delivered along with 300m of rebar that has SR24 stamped on it.

We've opted for pre poured 6x6x4m concrete pillars with 4 rebar cores as they are made just 100m from our plot and we could check the manafacture. They cost 1,000 Baht a piece.

Total build and land cost is currently estimated at 525,000 Baht.

that is probably iron salts in the water

you should install a filter system before the water enters the house to remove them, otherwise the water will stain all your fittings etc
