    QCon Blocks fixings

I want to hang a flatscreen TV from my wall, but the wall is made of QCon blocks

These are not so solid as normal blocks, so maybe there are special fixings that will help take the weight?

In my wooden house it was screwed to the wall with five nice chunky screws

anyone have any experience with the best fixings for QCon?
    I have reported your post

What is on the other side of the wall? The safest way would be to drill through and use screws all the way through. But there should also be screw anchors designed for QCon.

My builders are about to put up kitchen cabinets and the TV so I will let you know if it successful and what they do. We rebuilt 2 walls completely to take the weight of the kitchen cabinets.

I have had a Google and found that some people say that normal plastic plugs would be fine, but the drilling must be done carefully so that the hole is near perfect

so they are not QCon any more?

I think that would be classed as overkill! it's only a TV and it has five fixing points

They were thin wood, now Q-con to take the weight of the cabinets.

True, but depending on what is on the other side it may be an easy and absolutely reliable solution.

Your question seemed to indicate you are the worrying type.

I suppose wanting to do a job properly, and not see the TV lurch off the wall, may be classed as worrying!

If the normal fixings can be used, then no worries

it seems that QCon has its own set of things it requires, like the render etc, and may also need specialist fixings

Hope you didn't take it as an insult, it wasn't meant to be. Just a little joke.

If you do take this route, then drill a "pilot hole" with a 2.5 or 3mm then go with the 5mm to finish it off.
Personally I would be shitting myself hanging a new TV on a QCon wall thinking that it may fall down.
Saying that. TV's nowadays weigh less than a bag of sugar, so you may well get away with it.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

OK I will hang a bag of sugar on the wall for a couple of weeks to test it out

won't be so much fun watching though

nope, I am quite difficult to insult, most of what people say is true

thanks Jizzy, I will get my catalogue out and have a look

    those plugs even have this

High strength fixing even in aerated concrete.
    small problem

those coach screws are M8, the plugs are UX6 4-5mm

are those sizes suitable for each other? so many different ways of measuring

The M8 screws are 8mm diameter, which is chunky

the plugs UX8 are suitable for 4.5-6mm, so would need UX10 for the 8mm screws

Given current tv it'll probably be a lot more invigorating.

If you switch the TV on, sometimes it is worth watching

The bolt head is an imperial size 3/8 or 7/16 i think but as i said i'll check and let you know

All my air conditioners are mounted on qcon block walls for a few years now with no problems.

If you really wanted to make it strong just drill hole twice as deep and put in two plastic plugs and longer screws.

I would fill the hole with Q-con adhesive before inserting the plug then fix the TV mount while still wet. Let it set then hang the TV from it.

The plug should expand enough to grip the block

if the block starts to crumble then adhesive will not make much difference

QCon replied to my enquiry with a nice technical info sheet, all in Thai. Luckily, there are also some pics; they seem to have some metal expanding plugs for the purpose, but I reckon the Fischer plastic ones will do the trick

from that I assume you used plastic plugs for your aircon?

Currently, I am in the latter stages of remodeling a home here in BKK. We tore down and expanded several walls using the qcon blocks. As luck would have it these new walls will bear ACs and Tvs.

To tell the truth I have never heard of this problem before, but...

The boss of our construction crew says never mind. But since this is the first time that we have gone this route, I wonder if he really knows.

I will work on this problem tomorrow and try to find an answer.

quite!! he will be gone when they come loose!

as I said, I did contact QCon and they sent me some blurb recommending metal plugs, but I think the Fischer ones look good and are normally supplied for aereated concrete blocks

I think also that the size should be one above what you would normally think adequate, just to be on the safe side

We have had this construction crew for over three years now with various projects and they have always done what I asked.

I tend to trust the main guy.

Like I said, I will find out more tomorrow.
