house building insulation ideas
:chitown:Hi, I am not to sure if anyone has heard of using dry rice husks as insulation when building a new house in thailand.
Well from the investigations I have done via the web it seems a no brainer to use this very cheap and very readily available (waste product) for insulating your new or even existing home.
You can purchase it by the truck load from any rice growing district(i know pretty hard to find in thai) for not much more than the few hundred baht of the delivery.
after all it is WASTE product thais have no use for it other than maybe to use it as fill.
Tests have proven rice husks to have a high silica content and to be inflamable,(will not burn)insect and vermin proof, mould proof, have excellent thermal properties also, what more could you want!!!...insulation R rating higher than fibre glass insulation and the like,it works the same as other insulations but to to a higher degree of efficiency.
