I will soon be starting construction of my home south of Hua Hin. I'm considering extending the self build remit to include an infinity pool. After searching the web for days all I can find is general information and pool construction companies.
It seems that pool construction detail is in short supply
Would appreciate any assistance with good web sites for pool design or first hand experience of pool construction

Swimming pool construction isn't really considered a DIY thing as it is mostly structural.
I would recommend you get a local pool company, rather that try DIY, it is just not worth the hassle.
I wish you all the best on your search, so I will be watching your thread with interest, as I would also like a pool with my new build, but after reading some of the nightmares associated with a pool it really put me off the idea.
If it is to be done at all, and after reading DD's post on the subject it should certainly be done by someone who knows what they are doing, and not just say they know, I would also not reccomend the likes of JD Pools as there after sales service seems non existant, if the threads are to go by.

As been mentioned, don't try to build one yourself or it'll leak, float or collapse...:)
I know someone in bangkok that might do it, but a 2 hour drive is a bit much for a small job.
Whats the budget for the pool and what size do you want ?

Suggest you look at Huahin resorts that have pools about the size you're looking for and ask who they had build their pool.
I did the same in Phuket and ended up with a good builder.

That is a boring, uninspiring looking hole in the ground.
Because basically like a sky scraper a pool is nearly all structural, you don't see many DIY Build your own tower block websites either.Quote:

IMHO, I would really think long and hard about an "infinity" pool. They look nice, but are not practical for real use. They are ok for just quietly sitting/lounging in or gentle lap swimming, but if you have kids or expect visitors with kids, forget it. Any kind of wave action washes over the catchment and floods the ground around the pool. When I build my pool it will be what I believe is called a "negative edge" pool, that is one that the water is level with the edge and flows into gratings around the entire perimeter. I like the looks and I think it is still very practical.

Thanks Giggs...........Seems to me that pool construction should be viable with decent plans to hand and I accept that foundation detail and to some degree the pool design itself will depend upon local conditions.
I have seen many so called 'professional builds' which leak and cause no end of maintenance problems, very often the route cause is poor materials and/or the design specification not being complied with.
I would like to save a few bob and ensure I get what I pay for by monitoring the construction (as with my house) on a daily basis. So what I need is a company that can provide pool design and construction drawings
