Thread: Swimming Pool Algae

Had major algae problems with the pool going a very nasty dark green colour, tried all the suggestions in the manual , kilos of flash chlorine & 24 hour filtering , tried to buy algaecide, but could not locate any, even though the pool manufactures book tells you to use this.

Looked up making it on the web, rubber gloves, breathing equipment, & special acid resistant buckets required. Gave up on this.

Found a cheap & effective solution, just cover the pool for couple of days in black PVC sheeting , it all dies & you just vacuum it up.

Also if you get algae in the corners you cant get to, & if you have got a karcher this blasts it out , have also used the karcher to clean off the lime ring around the water line

Algae can grow if you have bad circulations in your swimming pool.
Algae will grow in areas where there is no water flow.

My algae was not caused by poor circulation, but twice by dirt bowing in from building plots that were topping up their soil levels. Who knows what could be in this soil to cause algae to turn the pool dark green within 3 days

You would have to be careful using that power wash it could blast out the grout quite easy

If your pool went dark green within 3 days then they was no chemicals in there in the first place, as for the dirt from the landfill should have settled to the bottom or was you swimming at the same time causing it to circulate in the pool.

What you need is Aluminum Sulphate (Alum) sell every thai hardware shop and cheap depend on the size of your pool maybe 2 or 3 kg drop in the pool and turn off the pool and leave till the next day and you will see everything drop to the bottom you can leave for 2 days depending how bad it was.

The most important bit is now to clean and get the shit out, turn your filter to waste on the multiport valve open up the vacuum valve and away you go.
