Getting my knobs out

Well, not my door knob but a door lock.

I have to replace 6 identical locks which are on aluminium doors. However, I can find no screws or springs.

This is the inside part:


The side part (I removed the draft excluder and there are no screws there)


And finally the outside.



I'm not sure of the actual brand, though the logo has a letter a in a diamond.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I've had to change a few of those type locks but not for a few years, they thread into the door itself.

Yep, the barrels are threaded into the frame but you have to remove the locking pins first which are accessed from the frame edge.

That's how I lost the bloody keys in the first place!

I have got the 'same' locks on three doors in our house, even have the same a in a diamond logo but I have two screws on the door edge

Are you sure there is no grub screw behind the draft excluder?

If it was in front of me i'm sure i'd remember straight away but from memory it's trouble!

Turn the lever to the locked position so that it is horizontal.
Anything visible then ?

Just pulled the excluder a bit more so you can see no screws. (sorry for the quality of the pix - phone camera)

I've turned the knob every which way, but no screws or little pin holes.

That's a normal type dead bolt is it ?
Mine are swinging arms.

You have missed something on the inside lever.

you can see the thread on the lock in this link but i still can't think how to get to the grub screw, our doors were different to yours.

Aye that's what we used.


If they were my locks, with no visible screws i'd use a pair of grips or small stilson and tweak the inside lock and see if there was any movement

to expose the screws?

The inside bevel unscrews.

Put a cloth around edge of the inside circular housing post #20. Place your stilson on the cloth, squeeze and turn the stilson anti clockwise.

Or go to a hardware store look at a replacement and deduce or ask/how to install.

go to the local locksmith and ask him to fit a new lock

he should charge you the cost of the lock and B100

The inner ring unscrews, ie inside of the door, the lock bit you turn is most likely held on by a small allen key grub screw.

I've tried this for the last hour - apart from scratching the bugger out of it won't budge.

go to the local locksmith and ask him to fit a new lock

Looks like its secured in the center of the door frame.
