slippery tiles

one of our dogs went flying off the front patio yesterday, and it's only a matter of time before i do the same.

can someone recommend a clear coating which can be used on tiles that become slippery when wet?

ideally it would be something without a lot of 'grit' in it, but if that's impossible get here, so be it.

Anti-slip deck paint.

google it.

we used it successfully on boat decks. Should work on tiles.

I seem to recall that International do an antislip paint ( with micro glass beads in it ) in a clear epoxy 2 pack base .

Or was it Jotan ???

Slippery Tile - My ceramic tile is too slippery. What can I do about it?
First of all, you need to make sure you are cleaning your ceramic tile frequently and properly, or it can significantly contribute to the ceramic tile being too slippery. Use one of the tile cleaning detergents listed under cleaners, sealers and coatings on this website resources and links section <A href="http://www.ctasc.com/Resources_and_Links/Cleaners_and_Sealers/" target=_blank tip>(click here)and scrub the floor with a brush on an extended handle. Then use a wet and dry vacuum to pick up all the dirty water.
If the ceramic tile is still slippery when clean, there there are products that you can use to treat the ceramic tile listed under cleaners, sealers and coatings on this website resources and links section (click here). Beware, these products are actually etching the surface of the tile and it will somewhat give it a different look and more texture. The more texture, the easier it gets dirty, the more frequent you have to clean it and the more difficult it is to clean. Good Luck!

An alternative. Depending on the size of your patio, it might be better, faster, cheaper to simply replace the tile with non slip tile.

thanks norton, but there's no way i'm putting down new tiles.

i'm not a home construction or DIY expert, but i would have thought that a quart of some clear substance could be bought in a home appliance store which is 'painted' on the tiles.

Acid etch them, makes the tiles look crap though.

I did it 7 weeks ago today.Slipped on a wet floor and tore the cartilage in my knee,still on crutches.
You could use clear varnish with fine sand added but it is not very hard wearing.You need to find a chandlery and buy some anti slip deck paint

if the area you walk over normally is fairly restricted, you could just do something over that bit rather than doing the whole patio

they are dangerous ,buddy i know slipped on his tiles and broke his hip ,so a long healing and now he walks with a limp .how many have killed themselves in pattaya slipping in the bathroom and bashing heads ?

Ray you might want to try this first.

At Home Pro (near their paint department) look for their “tape” isle. You’ll see masking tape,…..blue tape,...electrical tape, etc. You will also find a tape that is clear in color, with a coarse (non slip) side (it’s about 3 inches wide). It is mostly used on stairs.

It doesn’t cost too much and if it comes up once a year,…just reapply it.

No big deal (clean and simple),…………….saves the look of your tile out front, apply it in less than 10 minuets after getting home with it.

I would set the strips about 10 inches apart (maybe as wide as your front door) from the front door to the end of the porch.

Saw this stuff at the local Tesco. Think it was the 2" width. 3M Brand.

They use similar stuff on the decks of ships so should be fairly durable.

'Homepro' sell anti slip adhesive tape for such a purpose. They sell two products it's expensive so I buy the cheap one. The adhesive backing is shit so once I pull off the waxed paper cover I spread, evenly, clear silicone on it and it improves the adherance. It works in our house.

don't see why not, I have seen it in public places and it seems to wear well

just a few strips across the walking area, about 15/20 cm apart

I think grinding the surface, or etching the tiles, would be good too, but make it difficult to clean properly
