I Hate It When This Happens....
Not far from my crummy moo baan the government is "improving" the storm drainage. This involves replacing storm drains that were way too small with massive box culverts (?) right next to the Khon Kaen bypass. In the following photo you can see a small U-Turn road next to the highway overpass that flies over the railroad. The box culvert was placed underthis road, right next to the highway. Although you can't see it in the photo, the excavation has caused the fly-over to crack and sag a bit.

Where the drain goes under the railway they decided to bore a tunnel. Using a variety of innovative engineering techniques and precision construction methods the crew was able to come within three meters of hitting the target box culvert:
