    design competition

i would like to have a design competition.

it basically allows everyone interested to post a house design that they have come up with theirselves.

once the entrants are in then the forum will judge which one is the best.

the winner will have his design put on plans and rendered.

maybe another member could come up with a prize also?

so here goes some ideas i have,

Brief- A deisgn that provides a retired couple living in thailand a HOME. it must be max 200sqm internal. external(pool, etc) is required if felt necessary. the couple, aged between 50-60, enjoy outdoor life and the open air, they are however not 'sun gods'.
they like social evenings, and enjoy the life of living close to a town with some excitement.
they have 2 children who were born and live in the UK.

requirements- All entrants can provide their idea in any form they like. e.g. paper,CAD,photos to show themes.
    written explanations must be provided.
    dimensions are preferable.
all entrants must be in by the end of the month.
    no stolen designs allowed.

    Budget- 10m baht.land not included.

    anything is allowed.

    So what do you think?

This is about location innit? Design may be driven by location (beach, mountain, flat lands) but not a prerequisite.

10M baht without land is high end so should end up well appointed.

    oh forgot one thing.
all designs can be improved upon by the designer through c and c's given by members.

    twice.

Sounds like someone is looking for "free" design. Maybe they should be looking at the construction forum and finding something they fancy?

yes, i agree 10m can get you alot, the idea of 10m was basically saying for the size the sky was the limit.

OK, 200sqm for internal house. What about additionals such as Garage, Utilties/ maintance room for pool and garden, pool changing room, seperate guest house?

I like the Idea, I will get scratching soon.

I think you may want to consider the following:
-Site should be fixed size, shape and terrain.
-Establish criteria for judging; architectural innovation, utilization of site, workability of interior plan, suitability to target owner, energy efficiency etc.
    -CV's of judging panel
-preclusion of design professionals as entrants
    -presentation in Powerpoint format

    ok all good points.

i think we need to keep it as simple as possible. so how about:

upto 1 rai, square plot, flat terrain.mountain views?
criteria for judging is what the judges believe to be the best, your examples above are excellent guidelines.

judges are everyone who wants to judge, vote will be counted.no cv required

yes to perclusion of design professionals, but they can give c and c's.
    any format is acceptable.

    cheers.

A bit boring. It'll be like designing a house in a vacuum.

Why not post a picture of a site and then get people to design a place for it. I would even think a site on a city street would be more interesting than a wide open expanse.

    any format is acceptable.

The only reason I mention that is that it is easy to share files with the judges without requiring them to be present for all rounds of judging. Considering that people may be well scattered throughout Thailand.

ok marmite can you supply the location please?

humbert, ok i understand, my idea was to post the designs ideas on the thread, if someone has difficulty in posting them then they can pass them on to someone who can post pics, via emails/pms etc.

Hey, slow down there old hoss.

We'll see what happens at the meeting tonight.

Turns old the old girls son has just got out of the pokey and he could be a fly in the ointment.

It's about 2 years now that I've been trying to get "the plot" and nothing will surprise me.

Really doesn't matter for the purpose of the contest if you close the deal or not. Not sure about JJ but having a $10M house design wouldn't fit my budget any way.
