Too true. During my last project in Khon Kaen about 20 years ago, I wandered off site for a day to do some shopping leaving the father in law in charge to ' keep an eye on things ' . When I got back he had dabbled a few improvised improvements to save a few feet of wood, resulting in a skewiff roof to the carport . It gave me little pleasure to ream the old fart out especially as I knew it was my fault leaving in the first place.

Another 1 bedroom design from a Thai site. This one is quoted as coming in at around 550,000 baht with ' standard fittings ' if built by the company who supply the plans. ![]() ![]() Probably beyond the capabilities of the adverage village farmer/builder.

I do not know if it has been mentioned, but supposedly when the square faced one was PM, he had 30 or so house plans drawn up and put on the web free for anyone to download. These plans are suppose to be able to be legally built in all provinces in Thailand. All of the plans are bassed on the Thai building style. I downloaded the design I liked and took them to a printer in Pattaya who does blueprints and had 2 sets printed. It seems like there are about 12 to 14 sheets. Everything is included, foundations, walls, roof, plumbing, electrical. This link, Untitled Document, should take you to the government website and let you download all of the designs. The only problem is the web site is in Thai. There is a good web site for house construction in Thailand. Thailand - Expat Builders' Guide and Forum

The Green Gecko looks much nicer than that shabby White House place.

Slab is fine,my land on the bassac river is solid clay and water at a metre. German engineers are drawing a slab with thickenings running down the perimeter and down the centre to support the columns. Thickenings maybe 600mm deep by 1200 wide and slab 150mm. Columns and suspended slab on top. Necessary to run drains down both sides though as we are effectively just sitting on the ground and dont want slab washed away. Alternative was five four metere deep piles per column base, thats 75 piles at maybe $25 a lineal metre expensive even in cambodia. The bassac river has been the highest in over 20 years, encroaching onto my block by 15 meters. Another few hundred mill and we would have been awash. The ketsana storm event may have been a once in 40 years storm,or may be a sign of things to come with global warming....

Banyai You should bring your idea of wants to our design competition thread, for the #3 that is. The #2 is already closed. It should be fun for us there.

I might do when the next one comes up Mooncake. At the moment I'm busy preparing for the imminent arrival of my mother who is coming from the U.K. to stay for a month. I am also following Somtamslaps thread with interest to see if he can bring his house build in on budget. Thanks for the invite though I'll post some pictures of our plot though.

![]() Luckily for us a concrete road was just recently laid down connecting our road to the main road, 500 metres in the opposite direction. Continuing this way just leads to rice fields. ![]() This is the plot next to ours which also runs to the fence line. Our plot is 5 x 20 dtarangwa ..... 100 square. The adjacent plots are owned by the girlfriends sisters. This is about 500 metres from the main road and a further 1 k to the sahm yaek Wichien Buri. They are talking about building a Tescos there which would be handy because as it is now the nearest big store is in Petchaboon town a 1 hours drive away. | |
