Construction in Thailand Is building in Thailand as bad as it seems? Can properties really be built and fitted out to European standards? Would you like to Build your own house in Phuket, or a swimming pool in Bangkok? Solar water heating in Pattaya? Or maybe you want to build a resort or guesthouse on Koh Samui? If you want to build a luxury house in Thailand then this is the forum for you.

Ah...got it somehow. These are the floorplans to the above house....just a basic rectangle with a tower stuck on the front. I guess you can size the rectangle to suit and build the gazebo later if cash is tight

The obvious problem with this design is that it doesn't fit the standard 4m x 4m grid that the Thais are used to. I'm not saying that it can't be done (steel beams or hefty concrete ones for instance) but it will add to the cost.

True enough, but as I said , the basic rectangles dimensions can be adjusted to suit the experience of the adverage Thai builder. I've already had a go at this using the useful site : Create floor plans, house plans and home plans online with Floorplanner.com with the following result.....

A bit blurred as I had to resize but you get the drift. Bedroom and livingroom can be made 12' wide. I think the main thing is not to go over 12' on any one span.
The rough dimensions of the above plan are a bungalow 30' wide by 24' deep but I'm still tinkering with it as well as other possible layouts.

Thanks. It's something else you need to look out for. It started as an Idea to build a little place in the country to store our stuff, then it just escalated from there. Still, when I compare what I paid all in all I probably couldn't buy a garage for my car where I come from. It'll do for me and the more I stay up country the more I like it....

When it comes to budgeting building and furnishing a house it is next to impossible to get it right. Things inevitably expand. Once one thinks they have the budget "perfect", add 20%.

Get up there every 6 weeks or so to buy Thai/French beef just east of Muang Sakorn Nakhon. Nice part of the country.

Yeah it is pretty nice, unfortunately I am in Bangkok now and getting ready to go to the states to work for a few weeks, still, mustn't complain too much, I need the money and at least I have my job.

Already started a thread about it somewhere.....survivor mark II me thinks.

Yes. And with that in mind, you'll have to put a post in the middle of the French doors in your living room.

Well spotted. Like I said, I'm still tinkering with it and I'm in no hurry. With floorplanner you can drag anything in your design around until it fits the bill ....nothing is set in stone ( or concrete ) yet. From previous building experiences in Thailand I reckon being on site during construction is another must.

Yeah. There was a muppet on TD who wanted to build a flat roofed glass house and he had the same problem.

If you have any wish to have the house remotely resemble the plan it is essential.
