Eventually I'd like to build something in this mold. Not the scale per se, just the style. I really love the wooden ceilings and floors together with the concrete walls. What do you think??
-
I like the style but it must be a bugger to dust.
Welcome tot he site.
-
that's what thai labor is for. Does anyone here have a holiday home in thailand and employ a thai to take care of it???
-
Only if they remain on site and have eyes in the back of their head!
-
do you think something like this could be built in thailand? I'm thinking mainly of the living room area.
-
You need to ask with building experience like Dr Andy or Sabang and many others on here. Try the construction and building forum.
-
Yes, of course it could, it looks like a very simple building.
concrete walls with scupting curves, and wooden beam ceilings
I have an ancient farmhouse in Portugal which looks similar, albeit on a smaller scale. Thick stone walls, lime plastered and washed, beam ceilings and clay tiles
very traditional, so could be done in Thailand too
draw out some rough plans for your house, find a sympathetic architect and give him your brief, and some pics from that house
-
I'm certain this type of rustic masonary and timber construction can be executed in Thailand and there are many architects capable of providing a design to your
program. One of the keys to doing this successfully is to find salvaged timber to
create the beamed ceilings.
-
one more question
is this the type of thing that could be built on stilts? I have a seaview and i want to make the most of it.
-
of course
the easiest and cheapest way is to use concrete pillars into the ground (with footings) and beams across between them. That will make a platform for your house to sit on
you can make the next stage pillars any height you want
I built a wooden house with concrete pillars about 3m off the ground level
you could use teak logs for the pillars too

Is masonry ie stone a common product to get your hands on in Thailands northern reaches, that is if one wanted to build with stone for foundation or even as part of the wall?
Are the costs reasonable and what type of rock is it porous, sedimentary
etc?
^
^looks like a very pleasant tranquil place to be, good luck!
open living is the most free form and natural ways to build in thailand if it werent for those pesky pests i would consider having everything outside(except they seem to like biting my legs).
