Thread: What Pump Do I Need

2 Storey house under construction
2 bathrooms with 2 showers upstairs running of seperate water heaters, loos and washbasins and 1 bathroom downstairs.
2000 litre water tank, municipal water with algae. tank on the ground outside about 15 meters from the house, may build a small house for it :-)

Everyone including the missus keeps telling me a 250watt mitsubishi or hitachi will do but could do with a second opinion

Sounds about right to me

Sounds like a good enough pump and with 3/4 main line and 1/2 off that into each bathroom and into the kitchen should be OK. with a 30/50 pressure switch.
Also nice to have an air bell or chamber in the line after the pump so it relieves the short cycling of the pump and takes the spike out when the pump kicks in.
I made one with a 4"pipe 4' long and a cap on top and bell reducers down to 3/4" and T ed that into my mainline just after the pump and it works great, of coarse you will have to have a way to drain it a couple of times a year in case it gets water logged.

We posed to go out to the house tomorrow, I will try to remember to take a camera, I bought a big fan as sister in law and mother in law passed out due to heat last week so I got this big unit to make a breeze where they work the tobacco as it comes in and seems like my wife cant find time to take it out, but she was sick and puking all day yesterday so i do it tomorrow and then post a pic.

A thought - if you're worried about it filling with water, over time, place a air-bleed valve at the top - open it periodically to drop the water out a low-side drain - perhaps use a tee & bleed valve where you have the lower elbow.

I had to change the filter every few months anyway so it dumped all the water when I had the filter case off so it got recharged then.
and any valve I have bought in Thailand does not last to long anyway so I do not use any more of then than I just have to.

You will find that in most threads on TD, Jimmy me boy,, we do not stick to close to the rules sometimes and the dog just lets us run.

Well, to be quite honest, I think your wiring is just a tad unsafe. Actually, I'll go so far as to say it's fucking deadly!!! How the hell are you still alive?

If the wiring remains unchanged, someone will either die from electric shock or burns (the fucking house burning down).

Geez mate, for your own sake (at least), get it sorted out quick smart!!!

Come off of it, you can not see enough to even tell if that breaker set up is even active or not since there is no generator at that house any longer.

FFS BG, I wasn't having a go at you. I was having a go at the incredibly dangerous wiring in your house.

For a start, the wiring is "single insulated" & exposed to all types of interference. At the very minimum, the wiring should be "double insulated". Also & by the looks of the photo, "live" contacts are touchable.

All it will take is someone carrying something, to walk past these cables & catch them...next thing you know, you may have a "hot join" (heat=fire).

As for this so called "generator transfer switch", is it still used in some way?

All I'm saying is that even though you may be in the sticks, electricity doesn't behave any differently than anywhere else.

How would you like a loved one to die or be severely injured by something that "hasn't ever happened before"?

As I said before that is a switch I built to make sure that the gen and the grid could not be closed at the same time, there were never any open or live points of contact, no where could you have touched any bare connections.
and the electricity comes in from the front of the house to the main breaker box in the lower bedroom.
I sold the gen set when I left there so there is nothing at that point any longer but there never was any danger of any kind there anyway.
I am a dredgerman, we use from shore 13,000 volts to our transformer scow, we make electricity to run the dredge when we are not hooked to shore power with 4 or 5, 5000 HP diesel engines running generators on most dredges, I have a 12,000 steam and a 10,000 hp Motors engineers licence issued by the USCG, so I do know something about electricity.
And again the electricity does no longer go to that switch as I sold it to Gerbil over a year ago. and he does not have a long enough cord to put electricity in that switch.
