comparison between pe and pb pipes for hot water

hi

i have done some research on the internet regarding PE (Polyethelene pipe) and PB (Polybutene) pipe on their suitability for use as water supply pipes.

both seem to be suitable for cold water but are not suitable for hot water > 70 degrees celsius. does it mean that for hot water 80-90 degrees i have to use copper or other material?

it would be helpful if i can know the differences between PB (wavin hep2o) and PE in terms of suitability and overall cost of installation for cold water supply.

Use the local blue pipes for cold water, they are cheap and reliable

The PB stuff is expensive and will corrode from chemicals in the water supply if used for hot water

so use copper which is not too expensive now; the main problem with copper is that many fitters want to charge per metre for fitting. This can work out expensive. About B400 per m for 15mm pipe is the lowest I can find

Easiest is to buy the copper fitments you need, then have a chat with one of your local air con fitters and see if they will do the welds and fitting.

As I mainly fit Solar Heating panels to my houses I of course use copper pipes.

Honestly you could cook and egg in the hot water I get from my Solar Panels but with regard to plastic pipe I wouldn't use it for hot water normally although pipes such as PP start to really soften (plasticize) at about 160 degrees celcius.

Better to stick with good old copper pipes mate IMO.

We have a hot water system in our house and had to use galvanised steel pipes.
Been fitted for a few years and no problems yet.

Copper fitings and fitters were not available where we live
