I have lived in just about every climate there, is from the Equator to above the arctic circle, in Jungle/forest and into the amargosa valley and into death valley and I find less trouble with PVC plastics than with anything else, and there is no wood that will not swell and shring a tad weather/humidity changing. And if Old Teak is what you prefer, then that is what you should use.

And we did have one window that was thermal pane double glazed and was the back door and about 2 feet square and aluminum framed and led out of the mud room to the back yard and was the door we used all the time, it would frost on the frame when it was real cold, and the room was not fully heated and only got heat thru a vent in the attic of the room to keep the water reservoir from freezing and keep the batterys warm as they were in the mud room. But if the heat was uncomfortable, we would leave the back door into that room open and that aluminum would sweat and water would drip, so there PVC or wood was a must. We kept a kettle on the wood fired air tite heater for room humidity to stop a dry air cough as below zero there is no humidity in the air.

That cabin was a fine house, and I did enjoy living up there, drinking water from the creek so cold it hurt your teeth, no manmade noise ever unless some one came to visit on a sled with a faulty exhaust or unless I had the single cyl battery charger running. One mile to my nearest neighbors house, but I did see him and his kids go by on our land when they were cross country training on ski's but never saw then if we were in the house. Moose, Deer, Black Bear, Elk, Ruff and Spruce grouse all over the place, fish in the creek along with Beavers. But was a bit of doing to get things going again in spring and then to winterize stuff again in a couple of months and get ready for winter again. Rode sleds from October til April for 10 miles thru the forest all winter and had a few months to have Propane and gasoline delivered, get in heating wood and get ready for 12 to a max of 25 feet of snow again. The gal I was married to offered to buy me out when we divorced if I wanted to sell my half and if I would take payments, so as far as I know she is still there.
