    Automated Gates.

Does anyone have any knowledge on gates. I'm hoping to have some installed next week and I have 2 companies coming for an inspection; the gates are a sliding version and both have quoted 20k, which I think is very reasonable.

One of the models is by Mtech, the other is ITG which claims to be (Ital/German) which i don't think influences the choice as it may have done a few years ago. Mtech is Malaysian and it has battery backup, the ITG doesn't.

I have some knowledge of gates back in Europe in particular 'FROG' but know little here. The only thing swinging the sale is that the guy from Mtech was quite helpful. I asked him a question he didn't know, and rather than bullshit like the ITG salesperson did, he rang the manufacturer to find out, which is a good sign i think.

Mtech is 150W 600kg weight max. Output torgue is variable between 14/20 N.m aparently.

ITG is 370W and 1000kg max. Out torgue is 18 N.m.

My gates are no more than 300KG.

    Any input would be appreciated.

Both have a 3 year warranty.

    Cheers.

I think 20K sounds spot on. I was quoted 18K 2 and a half years ago to have mine replaced but I'm only renting so I didn't bother.

I can't remember any more details about them, sorry.

^ rack and pinion yes. As for the material, it doesn't say. I pressume high tensile steel.

The good ones use non-ferrous metals
The cheap ones use fibre and maybe even plastic

You can often opt for an upgrade to longer lasting racks

IP 67 and the battery has a backup of 2 years. However the sales guy did say it's worth changing it every year.

Rack and pinion. It is definately not plastic or fibre material.

I think i'm just going to opt for the Mtech as the guy wasn't trying to sell me a discount as the others were.

Do you have a separate personnel entrance or will you have to open the main gate for everyone ?

There is a door within the gate so it wouldn't be a problem is the gate motor failed.

DD. It's not for show, but practicality. The street barely fits a small car, and despite the gate entrance being around 4-5mtrs, it's a twat to get in and out. We can just about open the car door in the street to open the gate manually.

Anyway, it's a done deal. We've gone with the Mtech chap.

What a crock of shit this turned out to be. I can't be arsed to explain how bad the install was, other than to say a first time D.I.Yer and totally unsafe. Unfortunately i was a work at the time and left it to my GF and her parents to supervise.

After complaining, there excuse was because the install was free of charge; despite offering to prepare the cables for them first. Not that it will make any difference, but i have photographed the job and and promised i would send pictures along with the receipt to their competitors. They did offer to come out and rectify the problem at that point. I ended up totally rewiring and re-routing the cable myself.

Lazy bastards that's all i can say.

They don't come with gates, they fit onto existing gates.
