I have only seen them on extension lead multi-point assemblies but to tell you the truth I just snap off the round earth spike (by hand) and my appliances work perfectly without problems. Just make sure your house is earthed and check with your electrician.

LT, what does it help you that your house is earthed (safety grounded) if you snap off the ground connector?

MeMock, they are not a very common plug. You get them usually on cheap Indian & some Asian made appliances.

Best bet if you can't find one just change your wall outlet to the more common 3 pin plug. That way you won't have to change the plug on different appliances you plug into the wall outlet. The wall outlets are cheap enough anyway.

What is a more common 3 pin plug?

If you snap off the earth pin your house may still be earthed but the appliance won't be. Guarantee if you get a boot, it's because the appliance has shorted and the earth is going through you not the little round pin you snapped off.

Any Tesco store sells them, jump on the sky train and go to Onnut. Tesco is right there.

Or get over to Pantip plaza, they sell them, you can walk there from Siam station.

I did that once but only so I could plug in my laptop in a hotel room.

The day after I slung that lead in the bin and bought another one with the 3 prongs again.

There's a Homepro at Wave Place (Ploenchit BTS).

I do have a extension adapter with the right plug on the end, I guess I could just cut that off. I am sure they do have them for sale in Ubon but my wife just went to the wrong place today.

Bad idea Loy Toy.

If an appliance has an earth pin its there for a perfectly good reason and that is, it will save your life if the appliance shorts out.

No earth pin and you become the earth, if you have a weak heart you could possibly Die, at best you will never forget the shock you will receive.

I worked with electricity for 4 years so got bit of a clue about what goes down, do yourself a huge favor and replace your plugs with the proper earth pins.

Buy a few of the correct sockets and when you get home screw the old ones off and put the new ones on.

You don't have to do the whole house but just where you want to use the new appliances.

We bought a short 3 hole multi plug cord with a 2 pin plug and we carry it when we travel and then she plugs it in the 2 hole wall sockets and can plug her laptop into it, looks official as hell but no 3rd wire.

I have the correct sockets, just that my gas hob didn't come with us plug.

Might see if I have time to try and find this wave place tomorrow.

I thought the same Tezza but the factory electrician advised me they were not necessary. In fact I dont have one three pin plug in my house and to be honest I cannot remember ever seeing one for sale apart from as an extension lead, mulri-point adapter.

As you have worked with electrics before how do they earth a 2 pin plug then and the standard plugs they use in Asia?

They don't really, they are making hand and power tools now that they call double insulated and they have a 2 pin 2 wire cord, but I would never cut the ground pin off and I would always use that in a grounded outlet.
And the new standard here is 3 wire with 3 pin plugs and sockets and 3 wire runs, and was already being used when I built our house and EGAT was recommending doing 3 wire instillations then, but only one shop in town had any 3 wire stuff and so it was a kind of a look and see thing, everyone has them now, I have 10 wall plugs in our kitchen and 8 in our bedroom so there is no need for extension cords in our home.

that is the point. If the house does not have earth wiring, then the third pin is redundant, so can be removed - it makes no difference

The new regs insist on earth wiring for power points, but most houses do not have it yet
