    Quality Paint Brushes/Rollers Where?

    Hi,

I have a friend staying over in Bangkok for a few weeks (he is a professional decorator) and he has offered to decorate my house whilst over here. . Having real trouble finding quality brushes and rollers... the stuff in Home Pro is rubbish, no substance t the brushes and the small hardware shops only sell the cheapest/poorest quality around...

Would appreciate some pointers on where to go...Cheers

I use Mr Paint in Pattaya and normally there are a few independent specialized paint shops that stock quality paint brushes and rollers and for the many different finishes that companies like ICI, Jotun and Berger require and to achieve the desired results.

Therefore Google either of these paint companies retail outlets in Bangkok and you may be lucky.

Try the paint shop on the corner of Sukhumvit Soi 38 (Thonglor BTS).

    Oh Dear!

Now your talking to the one member here who should now!

The paint here, and we are talking about the ICI, Jotun, Berger, better TOA grades, Nippon (for example) produce the same if not better quality paints here and when compared to what they produce back in the parent companies country. The conditions here in Asia are so harsh a company like ICI has developed paints here that out perform what they produce back in the UK but are proportionally more expensive.

I would suggest your contractor has used cheap low, quality paints so go after the cooont and demand a refund. Either that or buy some decent paint next time.

Most of the brushes I see here are horsehair, most pros use synthetic fibre brushes these days as the give a better finish.
I looked for synthethic brushes here and couldnt find any, that was four years ago though so they may be about now. No idea where though
Ask you pal to bring his kit with him Busmans holiday and all that.

And they probably watered it down to within an inch of its life, adding water to paint here is acceptable to improve flow becuase of heat. But naughty contractors will overdo it and cornercut by painting your house in what could be best described as milk if they can get away with it. You gotta watch 'em!

I,ve never seen professional paint brushes here the quality stuff here is more on par with your UK DIY throw away stuff, quality professional brushes in the UK include stuff like badgers hair brushes which are around 100 quid each and other natural fibered brushes and rollers.

^^ Your correct and that is the problem when using emulsion or water borne paints. The coonts water it down.

Another thing they don't do well here is prepare the surfaces and apply decent undercoat. The undercoat is the trick and to achieve a long lasting result and especially in these harsh conditions.

You can also buy some paints at over 2,000 Baht for 5 US Gallons and or 450 baht. Difference is the cheap paint will only retain its colours for no more than 6 months as compared to 5-10 years for the expensive paint.
